EF clutch in an EG
 

my clutch is goin out on my z6 i have a CM clutch from my old EF and im wondering if i can use it. i did some searching and found out that there are a few different sizes of clutches and found some measurements but im not exactly sure what im supposed to be measuring. this is what i found so far.

88 si clutch diameter 190mm
89 si clutch diameter 200mm
90-91 si clutch diameter 212mm
92-95 si clutch diameter 212mm

the clutch that i have seems to measure closer to the 212mm more than anything and im not sure what year si tranny i had this clutch in before so...should i just measure the outside diameter, of the surface (on the preasure plate) where the disc presses against the preasure plate? or should i measure the OD of the disc iteself? i ask cause they are 2 different diameters.

---- the size, just worry about it going onto your spline. if nothing else, just use the PP.

well its not an 88 thats the only one with different splines all the rest are the same. i would like to use the disc too but i suppose your right i could just use the preasure plate and a new disc, at least that will hold until i can afford a new blingin clutch.

I thought 88 were also 200mm but with 21 splines

90-00 clutches are the same at 212mm

88-89 are 200 mm

88 = 21 spline

Ahhh bone ive been waiting for you! so what exactly do i need to measure to tell beyond reasonable doubt what size clucth it is that i have laying round in my garage!

and secondly if it is an 89 clutch 200mm, can i use it in a 93 tranny?

you could use it in the 93 tranny if it's an 89, but I think you have to use the 89 flywheel/pp/clutch disc.

Just meaure the actual disc, it's .5 inch difference, should be plenty to tell. You want to see about 8.35 inches, if it's under 8 you're screwed.

you can use a 200 mm clutch with the stock 90-00 setup.

Notice the WIDE pressure plate. The 212mm disc uses all but the inner 1/2" of the surface. The 200mm disc uses all but the OUTER 1/2" of the surface.

But the smaller clutch has less grip, just like smaller brakes.

FYI some 96-97 Civics (HX HB's) came with 200mm discs......how you think I got a 200mm disc??????

I've always wondered if it would be good/bad to have a clutch that used all the pressure plate face, not 80% of it.

yea you know whats weird though is when i measure the disc itself its like 8 1/8" but when i measure the surface on the pressure plate i get around 8 3/8" is it common for the disc to be smaller? maybe i just got some funky stuff. but at any rate im gonna slap it in cause its gotta be better then what i have now! thanks for the replys guys!
