ECU question about ls/vtec in 5th gen civic-Help fast!

one of the only things that I have left to figure out is what I want to do for my computer set up as well as wiring harness?I have heard many things such as: run the D16z6 P28 ECU and harness just chip it, or dont chip it and just run a SAFC air-fuel controler.this is what I would rather do to get the ls/vtec to run in my 94 civic EX seeing as how I am getting low on funds. Any skillfully knowledgeable person that can offer helpful info on this situation will be so greatfully appreciated!!!!!- oh yeah the only other thing is that my car is an auto and I'm swapping in a 5 spd. so I have heard that I may not be able to run this P28 ecu and harness??? but as I mentioned I would just prefer to use my stock "non-chipped" ECU/Harness and just use an SAFC to control the air-fuel mixture. so if this prefference of mine will work with the stock auto ECU/Harness or if I will have to get a 5spd EX/SI computer and harness please let me know what will work and what I will need to do! I'm trying to do this swap in a week and a half from now so I need to order all of my parts now! so please all knowledgable info on this situation will be GREATLY appreciated guys. so please help my out with any useful info possible ASAP. thanks alot guys

I would get a 5 speed ECU, and then use the safc, if that's the route you want to go.

AFC's are crap they deflect timing as you tune fuel. chip the P28 and have proper maps..

I say use your auto p28 until you actually do the 5spd conversion.

After the conversion, if the auto p28 ecu is able to be used on a 5spd (either as-is or rewiring) use the p28 with a chip. And that should do the job. I think an afc is more than what you need for what you have/want.

thanks alot guys, I think what I'm probably going to do then is try to use my "auto" P28 ECU and just chip it to rev it higher than the 7200 limit as well as get better maps. the only worry that I have is that I won't be able to use my AUTO ECU and AUTO Harness for the 5spd, and seeing as how I wont know if this works or not until the last minute when I try it seeing as how my auto set up is obviously a D16z6 and my 5spd set up is on the new B-series ls/vtec setup so I won't be able to find out if it will work or not until it could be too late and then I will need to wait for parts. Also are the chips on ebay for like 20$ good or are they just scam crap??

does anyone have any idea if the auto ECU and auto Harness will work if I chipped it to run the 5spd ls/vtec setup??

you might want to post in the engine management forum.

I would recommend converting your auto p28, to a 5sp p28 and chip it w/ GSR maps. it's very easy to do and im sure a few members are capable.

Heck, Computer JLT is offering a free chip for a p28 as long as he can try the p28 on his car. He's trying to rule out a bad ecu and is offering this as payment of borrowing your ecu for a day. you might want to look into that.
