eagle rods

today i called race engineering to look up on their rod piston packages. i said i wanted srp pistons (low compression) and eagle rods. he said that eagle has stopped making the eagle h beams for d16s motor because they started using the 3/8s arp rod bolts in them and that made the bottom part of the rod too big or something. and so what they did was machine the ends (grind) them down which made the fat end of the rod a little skinner therefor making it my susceptable to breaking. any of you guys hear about this. cause i found a good deal on eagle rods and pitons and now race is offering me this rod called "scat" (if thats how you spell it) which is an h beam rod, and the srp piston. never heard of it. my question is is that scat rod any good if im gonna e nd up buying those and is that true what the guy said about the eagle rods for d16s?]
thanks
jordan

Re:eagle rods

I have heard equally good things about the scat rods. Ghetto D will be running them really soon. Maybe he can tell you more about them. My eagles came with arp 2000 bolts, but I don't know what that has to do if anything with what your talking about. I'd get the scat's instead of trying to figure it out. ;)

when I get me a block and some money I was planning on using the scat rods. They used to be on eBay for pretty cheap, but now I only see them for b series. :-\

Re:eagle rods

i have 3 older eagle rods with the small rod bolts and 1 new one with the bigger head (for d16)

RODS ARE THE SAME SIZE...except for the bolt head
u dont have to grind anything on the rod but u must still notch the block

I'm not sure if your talking about the same cncmotorsports, but if you are, I'd rather buy rods and pistons from bin laden. Stories too crazy to even post. :-\

if you are talking about civics, you don't have to notch anything to use H beam rods, only when using x beam, why would you use x beam anyways. and I the 2 different bolt sizes for eagle H beam rods are: 5/16 arp bolts rated at 600 hp, 3/8 arp bolts rated at 900 hp, I got the 3/8 bolts, at least thats what they advertised.

Where is this information coming from? Why would everyone under the sun, including endyne believe that the block needs to be notched? I looked on Eagle's site, but the tech page is under construction. I've just never heard anyone say that.

He's talking out his has...he says civic's, like they all come with the same engine...B-series don't need to notch...D-series you have to notch.
He has a B-series, so he doesn't know what we are talking about :P

Re:eagle rods

Cmc motorsports in cali is a big rippoff, I was stationed in cali for almost2 years, car was overheating and no regular caps were blowing off, so I went to cnc and they sold me a mugen radiator cap for $60, went to another shop and it was $25. plus they quote me $4500 for a b16 engine/tranny no mounts no ecu...plus no one recomends, them but a place called hookups, which is not bad, but cnc sucks!everyone laughs when you mention cNc.

I just need the cash and the rods have been sitting around for a few months not getting any use. Don't worry I am still going to build my motor. ;)
