Dual Fuel Systems???????????/

I want to run a dual Fuel system on my Hatch, Stock tank with a walbro then a 1gal fuel cell in the back with a inline pump that i can just put race gas in :y So what kinda cheap Ideas do you guys have for switching between the 2? I dont really want to run 2 fuel rails/injectors and probably just a single return line back to the stock tank.

How much money do you have? The sort of flammable liquid approved solenoid valves that would allow you to switch between fuel supplies are expensive. Also, how much power are you really expecting to make on the street??

Re: Dual Fuel Systems???????????/

here you go. you will need 2 of them. one for your feed and one for your return. you will also need a switch to change between two different pumps.

I was thinking more along the lines of a mechanical valve to close off the stock lines back to the pump and then a 2nd relay for the inline pump on a switch. But If i do that and use the stock return line will the fuel cell drain back into the tank pretty fast? I dont expect to make much power i just want to drive 30mins to the track switch to race gas race then drive back home on pump gas.

there are lots of types out there and im sure you could find one cheaper. it was more just to show what you will need

Find a old ford truck with dual fuel tanks and study there desing. Then take the parts off the truck and put them on the civic. :y

Re: Dual Fuel Systems???????????/

Go to a parts store tell them you want a 6-port 1-wire fuel switch valve. If my memory serves me right from old parts selling days Neihoff UN52 would work. Or if you want the fuel level senders to switch use the four wire 6-port part number UN54 or equivalent. These universal switch valves usually come with the wiring and fuelline diagrams.

I googled that and couldnt find anything

if you do set it up... how many passes would u be able to get out of ur fuel cell. Im no expert but i'm pretty sure u don't wanna run out of gas while in boost.... just a thought

I could'nt get it to work last night. Works fine now.

Re: Dual Fuel Systems???????????/

cant you just use fuel solenoids off of old nitrous systems? If i were really wanting to do this, i would take another fuel rail and injectors and weld in a secondary set of bungs, so youd have 2 separate fuel rails and injectors, and have relays set up with boost sensing switch that as soon as you hit a preset boost level, the race gas injectors come on and the pump gas injectors cease working entirely, when in boost. Thats the only way i know of to ensure that you are getting 100% race fuel and not a race fuel/street fuel mix... even if you use valves and solenoids or whatever feeding right into the fuel rail, it is eventually going to empty the race fuel and dilute it into the pump gas tank in a return type fuel system. Plus there is gonna be residual pump gas in the fuel rail, so cyl 1 is gonna be running from the pump gas the longest because its farthest from the fuel supply side, it would be an undetermined amount of time before each cyl would be running from 100% race gas.

Re: Dual Fuel Systems???????????/

A car with a return type fuel system will flush the rail out on startup. Valves on either side of the fuel rail is the best option.

Re: Dual Fuel Systems???????????/

i have a mechanical fuel switching valve with 3/8" ports from my IH.

go find a dual-tank truck. grab two valves. done and done. older trucks are mechanical, EFI are electric and run a nog toggle. dunno which will work better for you :8

Re: Dual Fuel Systems???????????/

My description of the switching valves and part # are the ones used to replace Ford and Chevy dual fuel tank systems.
The part # can be used in universal form keep in mind the Ford trucks in the 80's and early 90's used a setup with one wire where if the primary front tank runs out of fuel before you switch tank you will not be able to switch to the other tank, try no emulate this set-up. If you get a simple 6-port with one wire switch it will be the easiest way to go I installed one on a '77 GMC 3/4 ton van I had a 35gal. rear tank and a 16gal saddle tank from a '87 Chevy 1/2 ton and it worked awesome until the fuel prices went above $2.00/gal. 51 gallon fill-up killed my wallet I would only be able fill up once every 6-months.

Re: Dual Fuel Systems???????????/

didn't read through all of this but I say screw all these switching valves BS

just add a check valve on the stock line, and a check valve on the new line. Tee them together before the fuel filter. Have electrical switches to turn your fuel pumps on and off. Done.

Uhh, yeah, im sure that would work awesome. You really are retarded arent you?

He DOESNT want to run two fuel rails.

He DOESNT want to run two return lines.

He WANTS cheap ideas.

AND WHY THE ---- WOULD YOU TRY AND SWITCH FUELS WHILE IN BOOST!??! :1 recipe for disaster

Drive to the track. Idle the car. Turn on secondary fuel pump. Turn off primary fuel pump. Idle till race gas purges the lines. RACE. Switch back to primary pump. Drive home.

The Fuel check valves is what i had in mind, their kinda spendy but cheaper then those 3 way fuel valves.

I must repeat that I think it's a bad idea. You spend a lot of money to accomplish nothing. Most Honda make more off pump gas than they can hook.

I dont like pushing the limits of pump gas on stock sleeve motors :l Im proably going to wait and do this after I get all the little things worked out with the car.

It's not going to work like you are hoping, for a variety of reasons.

I know when the "bad" gas during the shortages was going around, -14 octane sold as 93 sort of BS, I could fill up with real 93 on a nearly empty tank and it would take 2-3 minutes driving before the pingies went away on my 12.5:1 beater.

Re: Dual Fuel Systems???????????/

you have to deal with return lines, or else all of the race fuel will be dumped into the street gas tank, plus you have no way of knowing when the engine is running on 100% race fuel and not a race fuel street fuel mix...

Tom-Guy 01-28-2009 08:54 PM

Re: Dual Fuel Systems???????????/

OK, so I thought about it.

Staged injection, so it comes on with VTEC, would work perfectly. So would a Moates 2Timer, have the switch also control which fuel pump and which bank of injectors gets powered.

thats exactly what i was thinking, the only way to do this reliably to guarantee that your getting race fuel instantly
