dsm question

The crank is wobilling on my friends dsm we thought it was the crank pulley but its fine.

i inspected the timing belt and it is somewhat loose coming from the tensioner side. at idle, the crank pulley has "crank twist" where it wobbles all over the place, but as its revved, it evens out and spins evenly.

is this because the timing belt is lose? and im hearing a squeaking noise and a rattling, im pretty sure the auto tensioner is bad.

thoughts?

Make sure the crank is tightend down tight. My friend's subie (I actually think it's a subaru problem) had a wobbly looking crank pulley, so we went to the junkyard and got him another, thinking the old one was just not ballanced anymore. On the way home, the pulley fell off...thankfully we had the next one to put on it.

I don't know anything about dsms, but you never know.

Good luck.

Actually that looks like a sign for CrankWalk issue which is common on most DSM particularly the 2G Eclipse Turbo. I have a 2G Eclipse Spyder 2.4L SOHC which I plan to turbo as well soon and I saw this issue as I was researching about my next build. Search around for DSM Crankwalk and let us know what you found.

He isn't experiencing crankwalk. For your build, buy a 4G63, put a 4G63 head on your 4G64, nab monster turbo, do AWD swap, be a ballar.

Actually the 4g64 sohc head is a pretty good design, as far as I can see, the valves arent nearly as shrouded on the SOHC head than the 63' heads. Port design is similar and I see no reason that a properly setup SOHC head cant make almost as much power as the twin cam heads.

4g64's kick ass. However, im not trying to be an ------- or anything, but your car is heavy. Too heavy. I see nothing wrong with building a decently quick daily driver, but dont expect to outrun corvettes or lightly boosted mustangs anytime soon.

Food for thought, mighty max'es and ram 50's cam with wide-block 4g64's and weight LESS than a spyder. RWD is your friend too.
