Default dsm help

I've never messed with a 4G63 and my went to help my uncle out with his daughter's Talon that tore some teeth off the timing belt. Now he replaced the timing belt and went by everything that it said to do in the Chiltons and it starts and idles fine but as soon as you put some load on it and put it into gear it goes **** up and starts wanting to die out and missing really bad.
Now on the timing marks by the crank pulley it has marks for BTDC and then like a timing mark and then a 5 then just a "T". He went by the BTDC and had the gears lined up by the marks and you can crank it around it comes out good and matches back up once you hit tdc again. He said that she cranked it off after it died out when it first happened so maybe she tapped a valve but would it still start up and idle fine if one was bent? I mean you can give it throttle in nuetral and it acts fine. I just think it's off a tooth or two myself. I have to head back tomorrow to help him out. Thats what good nephews are for. Actually I was refered by one of my other uncles since I supposely know about all them jap cars as he said. lol.

My 1g GSX had a similar problem when the timing belt broke. Verdict: all exhaust valves were bent.

Though it still started and idled fine even though all the valves were bent?

I'm saying it started up and idle and sounded fine when you gave it some gas? Cause my cousin's car sounds fine then once you put it in gear it just loses everything and couldn't move out of it's own way if it tried. We tore it back down and checked the timing on the oil pump and the shaft silencer with the whole sticking a screwdriver down the bolt hole in the back of the block. **Note to self-never buy a dsm after working on this** I always thought of doing a 4G63 rwd setup but after just doing a timing belt ummm ---- that. This ------- thing has 5 belts. One behind the timing belt is just ------- stupid. oil pump runs off a ------- belt. I guess I'm just used to honda's where all you need is 2 belts. timing and one for the alt. Whoever designed this ---- needs to be put down. Is the evo engines setup the same? Newer evo's with the reverse style engine. Not older evo's where they use the same 4g63 as the eclipse/talon/lasers.

It may just be that the cam timing is off. I would start with double checking that first.

There`s nothing wrong with DSMs, as the saying goes "you have to be smarter than what you`re working on". They`re not a honduh by any means...I have owned both and I prefer hondas but I never had problems working on a DSM.

To the best of my knowledge, the oil pump doesn`t run off a belt(correction, it does run off the timing belt)...are you talking about the "balance shaft" belt? You really shouldn`t hate on a car when you don`t know much about it. Sorry if I sound like a dick but DSMs really aren`t that bad. They just take a little more brains to work on than a honduh.

We did it a second time and it ran good and drive it for a couple of miles and came back and then it started acting like it originally was. Missing and no power. It doesn't take more brains...just more patiences. More then what I have. Timing the silencer shaft...oil pump...all together with the normal crank pulley and cams. Who the ---- thought of this bright idea. He just told her grandfather to take it to a shop cause he lost his patiences for it and shot his weekend to ----. After dealing with this I don't care if someone gave me a nice GSX or TSI I'd laugh and say I wouldn't give this to my worst enemy. You can quote everything I say but I could give a flying ----. I'll hate on whatever I want regardless of what I know about it. I like shallow stereotyping.
