Dropping in a new engine
 

My neighbor picked up a 93 Civic Si hatch for free with a toasted motor that had over 450,000 kms on it. Today we wern't out to lucky star and got a nice JDM motor for it with 50,000 k's on it for 800 bucks with tax. The new motor says V-Tech on the valve cover, old one doesn't. The guy at lucky star says all canadian Si's that year etc were V-Tech and the engine will be the same. Is that correct?

Also are there any tips tricks with things to do, when pulling the old engine, transferring new parts, installing new engine etc? A step by step how to site? I'm a pretty capable mechanic, i'm just wondering if there is anything special i should know now?

Oh and one more thing, the car the jdm motor came out of was an automatic and still has the flex plate on it, it has strange bolts on it etc, where can i get a socket for those bolts and the 5spd flywheel should bolt up great right?

ya they are the same.. look at the engine code. It should be d16z6. Its a SOHC VTEC 130hp. 92's and some 93s didnt say VTEC on the valve cover. Just look at the engine code besidee headers.

Also, one more thing. Compare the old intake manifolds as well. I think the auto manifold has some different parts and you may need to use the old one. Also, use the old ecu (im sure u know that) the flywheel from the 450,000km engine will work but one that old you might as well get a lightened one and new clutch.

Just remember.. im 90% sure of this, as I am more into the 4g civic/crx.

I didn't even think about if the manifold would be diferent cause its from an automatic car. It more than likely needs a new clutch, the car was not very well maintained, could it be the origional clutch?

it better not be the friggin original clutch! LOL! You said you're from canada... where? that lucky star place seems to have decent deals.

Yeah your right, maybe we will luck out and the clutch will have been changed like 20,000 k ago.

Its soooooooooooooooo tempting to mod this motor out a bit when its out. MUST RESIST URGES TO MOD!

did u say you live in Canada? Thats a pretty good deal for a z6, where in canada.. I live near toronto (20 min away)
