what setups work best (spring rate, weight) ? i was looking at the omni power drag coilovers, anyone run them ?? JD, where is your write up ? ;)

not that i will ever convert, but how does they handle on the street?? i know older VW's and the 1g crx handle pretty well but they came stock that way. does it ruin the driveability when you convert an IRS setup to beam??

I drove a solid rear axle 92-95 hatch down the street for some rips. It was hardly something you would want to drive down to taco bell



Yes the 1g crx owns imo. 1st hand experince 1.6 60's on an all motor ls build with just run of the mill suspension. Car got out of the whole like a rocket.

i posted in another thread (JD's pinks thread, i think) on here about the solid rear keeping the rear susp more level/parallel (hard for me to explain, but i can see it in my mind) thus using both rear springs to stop weight transfer, but never got an answer.
is my ASSumption correct as to the benefit??

the benefits are truely come into play with wheelie bars. The rigid rear suspension and wheelie bars will eliminate the front wandering that is so common with high hp fwd cars



Ass dropping is almost all but gone with that set up. Thats why all these high hp street turbo cars will not get any faster its the same problem people had back in the day before bergonholtz fabbed up the first wheelie bar solid axle set up suddenly 400 whp can be laid to the ground

so if JD was pushing 420hp an ran 10.x w/ a 2g CRX how much do you expect him to improve w/ a solid beam??

Solid rear axle really is at its best when encoprated with wheelie bar set up. There was a very old article in turbo I believe when people began the switch. People who kept the stock factory rear and switched wheelie bars actually went slower. Ones who had solid rears and the bars all started laying down some pretty impressive times



1st hand experince working with one of the first guy to run 9's was that same experince. Low 10's like Jd's car he tuned and couldnt get better than 1.7-1.8 60's


Switched to the rear axle,wheelie bars and some intresting rear suspenion 1.3-1.4 60's and mid 9 sec to hih 9's all day long on under 450 whp



Im not an engineer just a guy who uses logic. Fwd is at a loss due to the fact that it is pulling rather than pushing such has a rwd



The ability to get weight transfer to stay even with a fwd and keep the front tires on the ground and from hoping around the track like a 9 year old school girl is key



The most rigid set up is what will work best.
