double grooved oil bearings on crank:

I'm building a new motor soon and im doing some research. Has anyone used the two grooved halfs of the bearings so that their is more oil being tossed on the crank? So you would buy 2 sets of bearings but only use 1 half of each set.

Doesn't sound like a good idea. Try it and let us know how it works out.

I know having the bearings flipped around can cause "oil starvation" on the load bearing side of the journals. In theory you'd get more oil flow all around the journal... but, do you need it and is your oil pump stout enough to keep up with the extra flow/loss of pressure that style bearing would lead to?

Just port and shim the stock oil pump.

got any pics of the porting or is it self explainatory once you get the pump apart? I understand the shimming.

Hrm, yea ive never heard of it either. Someone just mentioned it in one thread in aus. I'm also wondering if their is a point in using non toyota bearings, are clevites n ---- worth it? I'm building a 7agte :D Which is half 1.8l 7afe with a 4age twin cam head. ARias pistons with belfab rods and wtf ever holset i have laying around to throw at it merciilessly.

check this link: http://www.theoldone.com/articles/d_...building_tips/ its for the honda D-series but same tech. can be applied to Toyota A-series.

Are you refering to the oil hole modifications? Is this common practice?

Yes on the oil hole in main bearings. There is good info there as far as shimming the pressure relief valve and porting the pump.

I think the problem is actually something to do with oil starvation while cornering, so ill put a nice crank scraper on as well as a windage tray. If i have the money m aybe an accusump.
