Does this sound like a bad relay?

I'm driving this 92 CX Civic and I'm having this little problem. When it is cold, the car will fire right up. If you drive for like five minutes and shut the car off for a second, the fuel pump does not work. After sitting for about five minutes the car will fire right up again.

I don't think its the pump itself as my experience with fuel pumps is that they don't limp, they just die. I was thinking that its just a relay, but a quick check under the hood and in the fuse panel dosen't show a relay (I don't have a manual for this car at work).

Do you think my thinking is correct and if it is, where is the relay for the pump? I figure I would get some opinions and advice before I go ripping apart the dash. TIA

check the underdash fuse box, I believe thats where the relay is.

mine has been doing that ---- too, its the main/fuel pump relay. i just turn the key on...if the fuel pump doesnt prime up (i dont have any rear interior, so i can hear it very well), i turn the key off and repeat till it turns on. pretty ------ ghetto but its like 60bucks for a new main relay (maybe i should get one from the JY?)...

Thats how I realized the problem in this thing, the rear seat is out so when the fuel pump is on it is very easy to tell.

This has gotten to the point where it will not even work if I turn the key off and on back and forth, the car has to have not ran for awhile.

Anyone know where the main is in a 5th gen?

Well I found it. I'm going to see if I can't get it cheaper at McMaster or Grainger. If either have one and its cheaper than the Honda quote, I'll post PNs.

I would definatly go for the relay first.... never had to do one in a 5g, but a few 4g's

my car used to be all shitty like that, then my dad had the fuel filter replaced and now it starts everytime.

what you can do is resolder the joints in the main fuel relay like so http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthrea...threadid=55129

id do a diagnostic on your ignition coil and igniter first as your car can die in the middle of the street when these go out. these 3 things are the most common hard startup causes in hondas. definitely buy only oem, unless you wanna go msd.
