Do ALL Honda motors come with headBOLTs, not studs?

I have a jdm zc that has 4 outside headstuds on each side and bolts for the center. are these arp's or did zc's have stock headstuds?

turbof22a 06-18-2009 11:07 PM

they are not stock

2BarRacing 06-19-2009 01:24 AM

curious I know that those "studs" are where the longer bolts go on a reg ZC

Careful using a mixmatch set. The studs will hold better than the bolts and you can pull threads from the block during heat cycles. Seen it happen on a y8 when dude lost a couple arp studs.

rExin_you_out 06-19-2009 05:46 AM

i think its ment to have the 2 middle ones as bolts.

Do i torque arp's down more then the stock 50ish with a graphite gasket?

rExin_you_out 06-19-2009 05:47 AM

cuz either my heads warped or somin cuz this is my third headgasket in 3 months heh, second this month. and i even turned the boost down to 8 for the past 2 weeks when this recent one let loose.

2BarRacing 06-20-2009 02:45 AM

the head could be warped or could something be causing you to detonate and blow your HG?

rExin_you_out 06-20-2009 04:55 AM

i guess it could be its just a stupid rich basemap but i did set the step retard and lil aggressive, ending in barly 1 degree at 7ish psi, started at like .35 and .50ish ect. prolly a bad idea. ima make a det can and ---- befor ii turn it back up to 12

rExin_you_out 06-20-2009 04:57 AM

and this time it did go out in explosive fashion, i was skipping (literaly) past one of those new gti hatches about to catch traction in second and it just lost power. and i put-puted home knowing i won anyway heh.

rExin_you_out 06-20-2009 04:58 AM

its pritty safe to say that if all 3 times it blew, it blew on a diff cylinder/place its det and not warped right?

rExin_you_out 06-20-2009 06:03 AM

......i guess the boost controller not having a screw, ball or spring left in it would do it......

rExin_you_out 06-20-2009 06:07 AM

and there i was thinking my latest tune change was the ---- lmao

rExin_you_out 06-20-2009 06:51 AM

i love my honda, i already have the head off ready to machine and had a drink and a blunt, and its only 7:44 hah like 30 mins to get that ---- off

I LOVE MY HONDA =)

rExin_you_out 06-20-2009 06:52 AM

and i love how you dont have to unplug anything, if i didnt have a new t-belt i wouldnt have had to jack it up to do the whole hg.

Didnt even uplug the distributor, nothing just pushed the intake back and lifted it out.

if it blows again get a cometic mls head gasket. zc's are know for blowing head gaskets under boost! my buddy did the cometic and never had a problem. as for the hedad stud/bolts its probly got the b16 arp head studs on the outer and stock on the inner. get another set of b16 arp head studs and u wil have to cut the inners down to size. thats what we did and worked great for 3 years... its a obd1 zc with t3/t4 60 trim on 8psi making 228whp

rExin_you_out 07-08-2009 06:09 AM

damn thats nice power at 8 psi. i cant wait for my tune. im running like 12 psi and prolly not seein that power. and nothing about the motor is stock.

jeremiah963 07-08-2009 04:16 PM

yea he made an extra 20hp just off of cam adjustment.... but as far as the head studs i would just spend the money and get another set of arp's and a cometic head gasket that will save u a lot of time in the long run and wont be going threw headgaskets like u go threw gas
