did i notch too much??
3 Attachment(s)
Ok i started notching my girdle for my vitara/eagle d16 and to me it looks like i grinded a ---- load to make those rod bolts fit. Is this about normal to grind this much off?? Some parts are about paper thin?? O and btw: I notched my block and the rods dont hit. But ---- its a close ass fit from what i can see!! For somereason i picture at 8000rpms the rods hiting the cylinder walls?? Am i just paranoid or should i have a ceratain amount of clearance other then just "grind it till the rods dont hit".

lol :3

Re: did i notch too much??
Holy ---- you went overboard. On my z6 with eagles I just knife edged the girdle, I didn't even grind that much and still had plenty of clearance.
|
Re: did i notch too much??
wow, i'd be scared to use that girdle. I didn't have to notch mine at all, just the block for rod swing. That's a very important structural piece that you just ground paper thin.

Re: did i notch too much??
lol wtf. ---- when i did my girdle with my scat rods i just barely touched it with the die grinder coulda filed it if i had the patience . if you run that you either got balls or like building engines
|
Re: did i notch too much??
I didnt even toutch my girdle on my z6 with scatt rods, just hit up the bottoms of the cyl walls a little bit. Its not like you can just stick a new girdle on there either, I guess the only option you have at this point is to run it like that and cross you're fingers.

Re: did i notch too much??
LMAO, i think this might be in the running for "Best Thread Ever" along with the guy in my sig

Re: did i notch too much??
i remember some dude on ht ported his head way too much. haha funniest thing ever.

Re: did i notch too much??
Bwahah
You must be related to the guy in my quote....at least you didnt grind off the end of the rods Next time search for block notching and look and see what others have done before you pick up the grinder. Did you even mock up the rods to see what you needed for clearance?? |
Re: did i notch too much??
ROFLCHOPTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im ashamed to call you my friend Adam! |
Re: did i notch too much??
looks good to me, ride the ---- out ;D

Re: did i notch too much??
Dude you'll be fine... it's not like the girdle is going to explode or break as you drive... So just torque that ---- down and start driving
|
Re: did i notch too much??
I had to notch way more than I read on ENDYN's site. Ill post up once its fin.

well here is my problem now.. I put the whole thing together... y8 block, z6 crank, y8 girdle and it looks like i barley notched enough as it is! Everyone said i went to much but ----.. It barley even clears it! But i did realize that my pistons dont seem to be going to tdc all the way. So im guessing maybe i shouldnt be using a z6 crank in a y8... Thats the only thing i can think of would make this happen.. HEre are some pics!
still barley clears with all that metal cut out! Attachment 24626 Pistons still doesnt seem to come all the way to tdc... Im guessing this is because of the crank?? Attachment 24627 Attachment 24628 |

Re: did i notch too much??
i dont think you can swap cranks. as far as i know i think the crank has to stay with the block. what did you expect to gain by using a z6 crank in a y8?

Re: did i notch too much??
i have a z6 crank that just needs a polish if you want it. $20 plus shipping?
|
Re: did i notch too much??
Just put that POS together already you emo fag!
|
Re: did i notch too much??
The pistons dont come all the way to the top of the sleeve because they are vitara's, the pin height is a little higher than the honda pistons, that is normal. Mine is the same way just like everybody else using vitara's, just rock it like its hot.

Re: did i notch too much??
HOly ----! I didnt have to do all that! WOW!
|
Re: did i notch too much??
---- i dont know why everyone has been saying i went to much.. I have had 2 people look at in person that have the same rods (eagle) and they said they had to notch the same amount off theres!
I think it just looks like alot because most of u didnt use eagles.. And with eagles u have to notch ALOT more to make them fit. |
Re: did i notch too much??
i've used eagles, and i didnt have to notch that much, barely even half that
|
Re: did i notch too much??
All d16 cranks are interchangeable. The vitaras are going to sit lower in the bore, because of the pin height as stated. As far as your notching, thats ridiculous. I didnt have to notch the girdle at all for my scat rods. im not sure whats going on in there without some more detailed pics. Youve got the rod bolts all the way tight right?
|
Re: did i notch too much??
You're fine with that crankshaft... Like sohcpwr said, they interchange. What you can't swap are main caps with blocks they did not come off of.
|
Re: did i notch too much??
close machined tolerances. When bearing clearance is .001, every main girdle produced would have to be within .001 of eachother. Im ASSuming here

ill try to get some more pics of it for u guys..

Re: did i notch too much??
you want a little girdle with your notches? :y
|
Re: did i notch too much??
you can run d15 rods and push that piston up a few mm ;) It'll give you better rod ratio too. Don't worry about that gridle. When everything in torqued down they just work like normal main caps. I would just completely cut off the pieces you are grinding. It will have plenty of lateral support from the center oil passage. Final result would like 5 normal main caps w/ the oil bar across it.
