d17 vtec questions
there is a 2003 civic EX in the Junk yard near me. its got 17k on it and i can get the whole motor for
$400. i was wondering if i can even use any parts from it. will the head work for a mini-me? i know almost nothing about the d17s. i'll do some research now, but any help would be appreciated. |
Re:d17 vtec questions
the 01+ civic d17's use dizzy-less ignition. they have 1 coil per plug.(thats what the black caps are).
Im not sure if the head will work due to that fact. the block however, i believe it's just a stroked d16. you *could* use the crank/rods/pistons in your d16 engine. You would basically be one of the first as far as I know. Not many people have used d17 in earlier civics. that i've seen/heard of anyways. |
Re:d17 vtec questions
they dont bolt up at all, the d17 is useless as far as older d series go

Re:d17 vtec questions
in Canada we have a civic Si Coupe w/ a d17 vtec motor. it's basically a 1.7l y8. w/ no dizzy.

Re:d17 vtec questions
the d17 rotating assembly can be swapped into a d16, however the C/R using a d17 vtec's pistons would be too high, and even if you use the non-vtec pistons the r/s ratio ends up at like 1.43:1 (horrible). not worth your time at all. :'(
