The D17 comes on the new 01+ civics. I don't think anything is interchangeable

No, the civics with the single cam motors are still D's. Now they have DIS and all that other crap. However, don't the new D's spin the other way? I know the exhaust exits the head in the rear. I think they are reversed.

Re:d17 crank in a d16 ?

ya thats correct, they spin the othe way, so I would say no to the crank. firing order is probably different.

D17's still spin counter clockwise guys... ::) and exhaust is still of the front side of the head..

yeah jeff is right...
the d17 still looks like a d16, except its a bit more boxed... the oil pan is more squared and a bit larger. They have one on an auto stand at the auto recycler where I got my d16z6.
My guess'd be they are interchangable... only one way to find out!

ya but doesn't a z6 or y8 have more HP anyways?

Re:d17 crank in a d16 ?

Probably because the D17 is a ULEV now, lol

Highly doubt the cranks will fit, but its worth a shot, What would be neat, is if the head configs are the same, and the bell housing configs are the same, you could put that block in a crx, with like a D16y8 head... Nifty!

But I thin the alternator was relocated to the front... not sure?

ya but alt. could just be moved again w/ some welding and brackets. the hard partt would be finding the right belt.

Re:d17 crank in a d16 ?

lol, a belt would be easier to find then making brackets, ::)
