d16z6 wiring help

Anyone out there who can give me some help on wiring the 92-95 d16z6 si motor for a 88 dx or cx hatch. going to get the car soon and do the motor swap. detailed step by step instructions and maybe some diagrams or pics will be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Re:d16z6 wiring help

judging simply by the fact that there was no 88 cx I'm going to tell you to do a hell of alot more research. I'm pretty sure the mounts will work, but you'd better get a second opinion. first thing to do is to lift the car and drain the fluids, then remove the radiator and start unpluggin wires and vacuum lines and marking them by putting a piece of masking tape on the end and writing what that thing went to on the tape. If you don't already have a manual for your car get one, I hear haynes are pretty good, I have a chilton and it along with all my researc got me through my swap, but chilton didn't do enough work and leaves out some important crap. you are going to have to decide if you want to stay obd0 or go obd1 and if you want to keep your cable tranny or use the d16z6 hydro one (using something like the hasport kit). there are plenty of write ups on the wiring on the net so do a google or yahoo search. that is all for now, if you reply I'll see if I can answer more questions.

Personally i would get just the motor of a D16Z6 and mate it with the 90 or 91 SI tranny (cable). There is no realy good reason to get the car converted to hydro. Next deside if you want to go with OBD1 (little easier to tune but a bitch to get to work on an OBD0 car) or stay OBD0 (easier to do but you will need a VTEC controller and get an 88 SI ECU. there is alot of things to consider so you need to figure out what you want out of this swap. Look on the projects page and youll get an idea of what people have done in the past.

mate it to the 90-91 L3 trans. the 92-95 s20(coupe-4dr) has a .702 5th...(hatch) has a .750..but the 90-91 si has a .771. way better for drag. its a complete bolt in. no special wiring except for vtec...which can be handle with the alternatives they brought up. oh yeah....the plugs from the thermo. housing from the z6 is diff on the obd0 cars. its on the back of the block...with 2 wires..dont mistaken the oil pressure signal for it. thats about it.

Re:d16z6 wiring help

I didn't bother to connect those little connectors on the back of the block until I fucked up my engine. I used .157" blue female connectors to hook them up, I don' t know what it will be for obd1 though.

I think this guy left, what do you guys think?

Re:d16z6 wiring help

hasport mounts should not be necessary. i am using my stock dx mounts on the same swap you are considering. i have a 90 dx though, not sure if the two years makes that much of a difference. also, just to back up what the others said, the dx tranny for sure will work with that motor if you dont have access to an si one. good luck, and google is your best friend.

Re:d16z6 wiring help

u can probably sell the z6 tranny for more then a a6 would cost. you need to use 4g mounts on the 5g engine/tranny (if you go that way tranny wise).
