D16z6 - Should I pull the motor or just the head?

So I have a friend who owns a wrecker company and told me today "you're welcome to get parts from any car in my lot". I was previously salvaging a volvo from him but recently he has gotten in a black '95 Civic EX coupe, front end collision, air bags hanging out, pretty good hit in the front (I wish I had the digital camera here, but my sister stole it from me >:()

Anyways, the car is an AUTOMATIC with 108k miles on it. From a quick inspection this morning the thing looks 100% stock, no apparent signs of teenagers owning it (no stickers on the windows, no crappy looking rice ---- anywhere). Everything but the front clip is salvagable (I think the door windows were either down or broke, don't know).

Main concern is the smashed front end and the engine not aligning straight (since the chassis is all bent the motor mounts are squished). So that brings me to this question.. should I pull the entire block out or just the head and sell it?

If I could get more money for the entire block pull, it might be worth my while having to fire up the cutting torch or recipricating saw to hack away what's left of the front end. If I just pulled the head, I would be piecing together a complete mini-me kit to sell in the classifieds section or eghey.

What do you guys think? Should I even bother with the automatic transmission?

It has been a few years since I've played with any D15/D16 cars so forgive me if I labeled this motor wrong (I assume it's a D16z6 if not, please correct me). I mostly stick with other motors.. B series, F series, chevy, volvo.. etc

Thanks in advance for any input.

I would think that you could pull the whole motor if it is't cracked or nothing. You would get more money if you did that. Yeah someone could use the engine here.

any ballpark figure on what it's worth? I know some parts are in high demand, like the center console. I'm not 100% sure the guy is willing to give up the civic or not, I'm doing my research, calling him back then starting the strip down.

use to be able to get $300 fro a SOHC VTEC head but anymore you can only get about 50-175 depending on mileage on ebay. i would jsut pull the head unless you know someone close to you that needs a block.

Yeah I have a friend who might want the block, but he might want the "friend price" so I might just do the egay thing.. I noticed that if people list JDM in the title when selling the block they get twice as much (even tho their parts are usdm), thinking about just putting together a Mini-Me swap kit (head, valve cover, intake, timing belt crap, vtec parts, distributor) and listing it on ebay, might pull $200 or so and not have to worry about cutting thru that entire front end.

What about the transmission? Let it rest with the motor?

Thanks for your current comments.

Yeah, I'm going thru past auctions on ebay, head by itself "should" sell for about $100, with everything included in the mini me swap I am seeing $200-250 (in prior auctions of course). Saw a whole motor for $280 (i forget the miles, around 80k i think). Wierd thing is a bare block with nothing else (in good cond) with 50k miles just went for $200. The rest of the parts have 50-100k miles on them.. so it looks like I will be pulling this whole damn block out. I will find out more as I go along.

If I can use my resources/tools and recycle some parts to HMT for cheap, I will do so.. like maybe sell the oil pan and weld in a bunge (since not every HMT project maker has a mig welder) for cheap..

I might be able to also take requested parts and sandblast them down to clean metal for people and ship them out, like a valve cover or something.
