Default d16z6 into 98 so

I originally had the y7 motor and had crazy rod knocks so I dropped the z6 motor in it but the y7distributor doesnt line up with the z6 head.. What distributor do I have to use? Will the y8 fit?

Wow, are you stalking me?

I have the same ---- happening to me. The distributor on mine right now is the Y7 with vice grips holding it on, but it's running really shitty, it's gotta be the timing, but I want to make sure the distributor is on correctly (even though it goes on one way :1)

But yea, only distributor that fits is the Z6, so I figure I'm just going to transfer all the internals into the Z6 housing I have.

Yea but chris, my firing order is all good, plug wires have no resistance, has shitty throttle response and seems like the timing is too retarded, but when I advance it there's still the same problem. I remember hearing something about a TDC sensor, I don't think any of the motors I've had have had that.

Thanks again for the plug man

Just annoying.

You can either repin the plug, or retrofit the distributor components into the z6 housing.

they said that Y8 dizzy will fit fine.. I'm using obd2 wiring harness.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! two different ------- sources.. z6 dizzy needs re-pinning and y8 dizzy will fit perfect.

LOL,
nope.

Y8 won't fit, you'll have the same problem where the top hole won't line up, and the two on the side will be off.

Z6 housing with the internals you have will work best. Whoever told you it would fit is just assuming because the motors are "practically identical"

Stop asking on HT

i've been actually researching this because i am gonna be putting a z6 into a 97 that has the Y7 in it. from what i have read pretty much all you need to do is use alot of the OBD1 plugs but wire them onto the OBD2 harness. sounds simple enough but i guess everything does if your just reading it online lol.

because the harness is differant on OBD1 and OBD2 motors, the obd1 enginbe harness plugs into the passenger side shock tower where the obd2 goes all the way through the firewall and hooke directly to the ecu and under dash harness.

it's pretty much what your doing when you use an obd2 to obd1 conversion harness and replace the plugs with the obd1 ones.
