D16z6 Engine Problem Help!

I have a 95 Civic EX w/ a D16Z6 VTEC engine. I just went to oil changers today to get my engine oil changed. (Yeah, I'm lazy) But anyways, I think when they changed the oil on my car they forgot to tighten the oil filter on the engine. So I drove the car with no oil!!!! :wthhh:

My oil check light did not turn on. I'm not sure why. But anyways, i realized when my engine started having knocking sound. I knew then something wasn't right. So i pulled over. Turned off the engine, pop the hood, I soon realized that oil was everywhere. Took a closer look, those guys that did the oil changed did not tighten the oil filter. So i checked the dipstick, no oil!!! Luckily I had 3 extra quarts of oil in my trunk. Poured the oil in, tighten the oil filter. Started it back up.

The car just starts, then just dies off. And I think i heard knocking really loud. What do you think the problem could be? ----, luckily i have another commuter.

well your engine is fucked i'll tell u that.

No oil + knocking = spun bearing(s). need new crank, rod(s), bearings and machine work.

make THEM PAY. ;D

Re: D16z6 Engine Problem Help!

is it a knocking noise.... or a ticking noise????

knocking noise = lower end

ticking noise = valvetrain

Re: D16z6 Engine Problem Help!

sounds more like knocking but 20x times louder. and it doesnt sound smooth at all. The more i step on the gas the louder the sound is.

Re: D16z6 Engine Problem Help!

you think its just the bearings? Hmmmm......

88crxSi 06-10-2005 08:25 AM

Re: D16z6 Engine Problem Help!

no if the bearings go then usually they take whatever they are touching with them.

Ie. Rods, main caps, crank, and probably the block.

what they do is gouge, sratch and destory each other.

Replace the ENTIRE motor (get them to pay) cuz u dont want to chance it.

Re: D16z6 Engine Problem Help!

well took it to a mechanic and gave me an estimate of $1200 for the engine+ labor. bought the receipt to the oil changers corporate. And they wrote me a check. So now im happy! Plus I bought a D16z6 ShortBlock for $100. Is that a bit too much? Not sure if i should sleeve the block, Forged Pistons, Rods before putting it in since the motor is already out. Making it so much easier.
