D16z6 Camshaft, best cam for the $$$? Regrind or new?
I called Delta, they told me 272/252 or maybe I switched the numbers around, for $93 +shipping both ways, or I've seen zex, or a coupple other companies advertising turbo z6 cams,
Please let me know what kind of experience you've had with any cam. I'm shooting for 400whp scat/vitara's t3/to4e 57trim |
Re: D16z6 Camshaft, best cam for the $$$? Regrind or new?

Re: D16z6 Camshaft, best cam for the $$$? Regrind or new?
Yeah even if it is a more agressive cam, what is different about it, This thing will be taking Many "o" PSI so I dont want it to overlap, and have some nice duration on the intake side.

Re: D16z6 Camshaft, best cam for the $$$? Regrind or new?
The cam i posted makes a big difference on a z6. I have never used a d15b cam so i dont know how much better it is but i have seen a comp cam in action. so i guess your not wrong.

anyway.... I`ve HEARD good stories with the crower stage2 turbo cam... and as of the d15b cam, just by looking at it you can tell there are a lot more duration then the z6/y8 cams and it does feel peppier then the z6s at mid range . Not sure about over lap and and those little info tho.. |
Re: D16z6 Camshaft, best cam for the $$$? Regrind or new?
Alright, I sent my cam to delta, they told me they used to not be able to regrind v-tec cams but they got some new machines or tools or some ---- and they can do it now. they quoted me $160 for a price, I thought that was quite steep but w/e I just sent it out anyway.

Re: D16z6 Camshaft, best cam for the $$$? Regrind or new?
its like 120 for non vtec cams, so that sounds about right.
and yea, they can regrind vtec cams now. |
Re: D16z6 Camshaft, best cam for the $$$? Regrind or new?
any suggestions on grinds? I was told a 272/252 would work well, this is going to be beat, shooting to see 400whp

Re: D16z6 Camshaft, best cam for the $$$? Regrind or new?
the d15b cam is different its obvious when you look at the lobes. Now alot of people are selling z6 cams has d15b hence why alot of rumors are ------ing that they are the same
Delta has always done a good job on the stuff they do but it is a regrind its only able to have so much material removed before you start having some major issues with cam wear etc. If you want real large gains crower and get a billet |
Re: D16z6 Camshaft, best cam for the $$$? Regrind or new?
I'm not looking for huge gains, the head is stock and I dont want to spend more money on springs/retainers. from what I understand they dont just grind material off, they also add it? thats what they're website made it sound like Anyway it should be there any day and I need to decide what kind of grind to use?
I told him it was for boost and he reccomended a grind, I'll prolly go with what he recomends the 272/252 sound right? I'm not very knowledgable with it i've looked at some specs on aftermarket cams but for the money this seems like the way to go for now. |
Re: D16z6 Camshaft, best cam for the $$$? Regrind or new?
I went with the crower cam myself for my d15b. I like it. I forgot what I paid for it.
not more than $200 |

No they dont add material thats known has a hard weld which is very very expensive because its no easy to get right. Web charges 450+ for this work Your getting a basic regrind itll work and its nothing special |

Re: D16z6 Camshaft, best cam for the $$$? Regrind or new?
the only way to increase duration without increasing lift is to add material.
now i cant wait to take a look at the cam in my d15b. i plan to do a similare z6 build with the same hp goal. maybe i will use my d15b cam in it since i already have it |
Re: D16z6 Camshaft, best cam for the $$$? Regrind or new?
well its at delta, they got it a coupple days ago, as soon as I get it back I will be able to finsish assembling my head and throw it together, I may even feel the sweet nector of a 300+whp honda within the next week.

But if you knock the tops of the lobes off too, you get no increase in lift (differential stays the same) but you can play with duration and overlap some. That's obviously not the exact science of it, but you get the idea. Or am I in left feild? |
Re: D16z6 Camshaft, best cam for the $$$? Regrind or new?
that makes sence, but you cant go very far cause of the angle that the rocker arms would be to the cam would start to cause problems
