I dont know if i read this right dan but your car is overheating when its not moving... and your fan is not kicking in? If that is the case that is why your car is overheating, thats what the fan is there for to keep your car cool when its not driving and its on. 2ndly if ur fan is working and ur overheating.. yes replace the thermostat, flush the radiator and buy some good coolant. pm me if you need anymore advice

.....well....you answered your question without knowing it. wow. oh yeah...if your thermostat is not there...the fan wont come on. and if your fan is still dead....check the relay. those dam relays go all the time.
