D16A6 and D16y7 problem.
 

I have a D16A6 block(not sure if it's out of a CRX or Civic no idea what year either). I have a D16y7 cylinder head out of a 1998 Honda Civic LX. I bought a timing belt for a 1991 Honda Civic Si(1.6L). The problem is the tensioner is fully tensioned and it seems that I have way to much slack in it. Like I can simply pull the belt off the cam gear with one finger. My question is what belt do I use? Is the 1991 Honda Civic Si belt smaller/bigger then say 88-91 SI CRX and the 1998 Honda Civic LX belt smaller/bigger too? Maybe I am using the wrong tensioner I am not positive. If the tensioner went up anymore the belt would be hitting the motor mount bracket that bolts onto the cylinder head. It is like less then a 1/4" of an inch away from it. Thanks if anyone can help me out on this.

if i was you id take the belt off and go where ever you got it....and see if the y-7 belt is smaller like an advanced auto or napa or something cuz they just sit in a box im sure they would open one for you and check that out....theres a part look up on hmt too so try that too if you cant figure it out

Yeah I just need a belt with like 2-4 teeth less then this Civic SI - D16A6 belt. Where is this part look up you are speaking of?

same motor combo i used in one of my beaters. Use the y7 belt.

Hey thanks. I got the y7 belt but now the belt is too small like i just need a centimeter more slack in it to get on the cam gear, it's almost there but I am sure if i prey up anymore it will break the belt. Did you have the grind the tensioner a little bit to get a little more slack to put the belt over the gear? I'll give that a shot, already broke a drill bit heh that didn't work have to see if i can grind it some how.

theres only one belt that fits that setup and its not the correct belt for any of those motors, obviously you have discovered that one is barely too long and the other is barely too short, heres what you need to do.

count the number of teeth on the belt, the correct one I THINK is 104 teeth, not positive though since it has been a while. but basically just add one tooth to however many are on the shorter belt and go to the parts store and tell them thats what you need.


so are you running a a6 block with y7 head or y7block a6 head?

An A6 block with a Y7 head. Yeah the places around here can't tell how many teeth or length for that matter for the belts for some reason. I tried to have them figure out on the phone if the Y7 belt was shorter then the A6 belt and they had to call me back because they didn't have specs or some ----. They never called me back. So I just went up there and looked at the belts and got the Y7.

definetely not going to work, you need an a6 belt

The A6 belt is what I have shown in the picture in my first post. In-which I was stating that it has way too much slack in it. Problem solved anyways I grinded the ---- out of the tensioner and got the Y7 belt to work. Thanks for the help.

Pretty sure you need the VX belt, D15z1. I read that somewhere because that's what you use on a minime and A6's and B7's are pretty much the same...
