Default d16a6 cam timing

just finished my engine rebuild and wondering where my cam should set in relation to my crank. i have my cam at TDC, but the crank will only go about 8 degrees before or after and not right on. i think this is affecting the car really bad, cuz it's really slow til about 3 k, then just drops like some crazy vtec.

do i need to get an adjustable cam gear, if so where can i get one cheap. thanks

how are you aligning the cam?

the lines that run along the head's edge are for 1.5l

for 1.6 you want the up marking about 11 o'clock position, look straight at the bottom and you'll see another line which should line up w/ the mark on the head/block.

EDIT EDIT EDIT

Im seeing conflicting facts. My manual @ home says the way i described above. The online manual on our forms describes the up mark and the left/right lines should line up w/ the head.

Some1 chime in please

I don't know about SOHC, but can you take off the Valve Cover and lock the Cam in place through the hole in it?

D16A6/Z6 cam timing mark is at 7 o'clock, using the pointer on the back cover
