d16 stroker motor........
anybody read honda tunning this month about putting the d17 crank in a d16 and stroking it out to 94.4. it seemed like alot of work for 171hp (at the crank i assume) and it had 13.5 comp. reguardless, it seemed like alot a machine work for that number when you might have got the same with d16, zc pistons, ported y8 head, cam, and itb's...........i dont know

Re: d16 stroker motor........
yea i read about people doing that a while back...on d-series.org or turbo d16 or h-t i forget lol...i think the thing is taht you need to use all the internals, not just the crank. But dont quote me on it, im too lazy to search right now

yea you gotta use the crank, rods, pistons, timming gear. but then you gotta notch the block and put groves in the girtle. machine the crank timming gear. |
Re: d16 stroker motor........
that sucks
|
Re: d16 stroker motor........
You might wanna know that motor exploded at it's first track event.
Long D17 crank with a shaved D15 crank pulley, imagine that :) yes, Bernardo's "Super D". A guy I raced against for years bought it, had it shipped out here, put it in his new car, and it promptly blew up during the first on track session he did with it. Blew it out both sides. |
Re: d16 stroker motor........
i was just really unimpressed with the whole article
|
Re: d16 stroker motor........
esp. when I read they used churches dynapak, which reads 10-12% high

lol anything to help |
Re: d16 stroker motor........
wouldn't a 1.7 dohc zc be cool lol to bad it loads the side walls so much
|
Re: d16 stroker motor........
1.72L DOHC ZC has already been done, and it was even stroked!
|
Re: d16 stroker motor........
why stroke an already long stroke engine? doesnt seem like a good idea to me
|
Re: d16 stroker motor........
that is what i was thinking...
bone you know if the 171hp was at the crank or not ?? |
Re: d16 stroker motor........
all that work when you could just get an LS for peanuts and actually have some torque...
|

does the dynapak not load the engine or something?
|
Re: d16 stroker motor........
is that the dyno that you just bolt up to the hubs. cant remember.

Is a superior dyno. Its able to hold rpm and partial throttle tuning is key with this style dyno. Has far has all reading high this is untrue I use to dyno at one that read lower than the local dynojet chassis dyno just churchs is a high reading dyno |
Re: d16 stroker motor........
depends on what size heads are used, and how much time is set for the pull.
set the time to 6, aka 5 seconds to make the rpm sweep, you get a low reading. set the time to say 15 and you'll get a decent reading. BTW this is just my observation of Blundar doing pulls on a dynapak, medium heads. |
Re: d16 stroker motor........
well, if more time is better then why dont all dyno's just use more time. are there advantages and dissadvanteges other than the quality of the reading?
|
Re: d16 stroker motor........
all in the loading of the motor, and the heat is creates. You don't wanna overheat the motor or the dyno heads.

Re: d16 stroker motor........
ive seen a few people that have used that setup for road racing. i guess it makes the car feel a lil more balanced in certain platforms.
|
Re: d16 stroker motor........
i thought road racing was all aout high rpm power.
i know, audi has diesel road race cars |
Re: d16 stroker motor........
yes, those Audi's are based near me, I have to be quiet about Collegde Corner (sp).

Nothing that special that hasnt been done numerous times. I have known 2 people personally that did this build. Not worth the time. Spend the money on top end parts thats where the d needs help |

I still have my ported a6 head I did with welded chambers and 76mm p29's. 45mm weber carbs has well. Chassis 86 crx hf but Ill proably never finish any of it. Other peoples stuff and paying bills comes first. |
