D16 DOHC?

i have a D16Z2 SOHC, and i have found a cheap cilinderhead DOHC from a CRX, i know it will fit, but what do i need?

HEAD+gasket
cam posision sensor
timing belt

whats next?

ALOT OF MACHINING. It can be done but not worth it! Just do the whole motor!

D16Z5 head just a DOHC non vtec

what will be the hp gain, mine is stock 110 the crx @ 125?

its a twin cam head and it raises your horsepower actually pretty good.. my buddy has a twin cam and his crx does 15.3 in a 1/4. it not that hard to install

You can't just slap a DOHC Head on a SOHC Block. It has been done, It require machining and so ingeneous thinking. If you have to ask this question you probably can't do it. You also got to think about little things like number of teeth on the CAM Gears, Oil/Coolant Pasages, Dowel Pins, Head bolt holes, and all those other small but VERY important things.

I could be wrong though because I've never heard of a z2 or a z5 motor, so you nust be in Europe or something, so they could be different, but I doubt it. For the 15hp, save for a turbo, a Cam, or something. It's not worth the 15hp.

Re: D16 DOHC?

the bolts wil match, but i doubt about the oil and water pasages.

the D16a6 = like the same as d16z2 d16z2 is also in a shuttle

im building a turbo on it and the compression wil lower when i put a dohc on it.

my english isnt thatgood, but what means dowel pins?

all i knew was that all Dseries parts where exchangable. except for the intake DOHC

Re: D16 DOHC?

as far as timing goes i would make sure that all gears used are the same as the ones on the dohc(including the one one the crank) . after that i dont think lowering the compression would be cool unless you intend on boosting it. i never messed with a zc, tehy are a joke from what i hear though and the a6 head should be at least equal plus provide more compression. i have never done that swap personally that is just my opinion. i know the zc pistons and rods are good for something tho ;)

Joke? Nope. The best D-Series Around IMO. Large Quench Area on the head loves timing in boost. Can hold up to alot of abuse.

Dowel Pins, Pins about 12mm around to locate the head and the block to each other. If the Holes on the block don't line up wil the pins in the head, your screwed! Same reason why the head has to be moddified for dowel pins in LS/Vtec Setups.

No not all d-series parts are interchangable. The DOHC D-Series is the Bastard Child. Unless your DOHC D-Series d16z5 is different the the D16a1 and the ZC.

Give it a try if you want. It probably won't be easy if it's like putting a DOHC ZC head onto a SOHC Block. If you ever finish it, Please do a write up!

Re: D16 DOHC?

im planning to boost, so its quite usefull for the lower compression.

i still dont know what dowel pins are?... those positioner pins?
the head came of a crx 1990 dohc, is this a ZC engine? how can i recognize a zc engine?
