Default D16 crank swapping?

My EK i just picked up crapped out on me. The previous owner must have beet that ---- out of it without too many oil changes since rod bearing #4 crapped out on me.

I'm looking at replacing the crank in econo fashion. I can pick up short blocks for cheap but I'm not to sure on compatibility.

I have a d16y8, the motors I've been looking at are older ZC's

Are these cranks interchangable? Which ones are? Having issues trying to find answers in the archives...

I know i could do a mini me swap, but I would rather keep the VTEC block in there.

cheaper and easier to just slap your head on whatever d series block you pick up.

Are there any issues with the y8 having a metal headgasket and the older D's with that composite ones?

also is there a great resource for D series nfo I could read about, I don;t know much about these motors.... I'm more of a B, F and H guy

Search around here and H-T for info.

There is no problem with dropping the heads onto another block. The HG is not a big deal at all. I would run a OE Honda gasket.

Just pick up a D16xx shortblock for cheap and do it that way.
