D15BVtec Inquery
Howdy HMT, I've a few questions about this sohc vtec motor. I used to have a stockpile of research but it is long gone. Will a DX tranny's splines match up to this motor, I just want to make sure that its not one of the Rare exceptions. Also, this motor i believe is OBDI is this true and does anyone know which ECU is designed for this motor. If I am to replace seals and such on this motor are there USDM parts that I can use? Are there any quirks I need to know about this motor? Also on 88 Crx Si's I heard the engine and transmission are splined differently than Later Crx's, does this carry over to the splines on the axles or will my DX tranny clunk right in? Thanks for the little bit of your life wasted to help me out.

YES I just want to make sure that its not one of the Rare exceptions. Also, this motor i believe is OBDI is this true and does anyone know which ECU is designed for this motor. You can use a P28 or a converted P06 or I believe the stock ECU is a P29? If I am to replace seals and such on this motor are there USDM parts that I can use? I'm pretty sure it uses all the same gaskets and such Are there any quirks I need to know about this motor? It has weaker rods than D16's, but they are all weak Also on 88 Crx Si's I heard the engine and transmission are splined differently than Later Crx's, does this carry over to the splines on the axles or will my DX tranny clunk right in? The 88 tranny has different splines. All 89+ have the same splines. 89 also has a smalled diameter clutch disk Thanks for the little bit of your life wasted to help me out. Re:D15BVtec Inquery
Any D-series tranny will fit..the splines count is for the clutch plate it has nothing to do with the engine...

Re:D15BVtec Inquery
i'm buying the same engine next week. it has 35-45K miles
will it just bolt on? would a ZC tranny be best for it? if not what would be best for it. will a d16z6 mani bolt onto it? any thing i should do to the engine thats needed for smog before i put it in? thank you mike |
Re:D15BVtec Inquery
Wait i thought 90+ has the same clutches
so 90-2000 are the same? i thought 89 was different as well? anyways, the d15b Vtec basically has a z6 head so you can use the p28 ecu. Any seals you would need you could get for a d16z6 and they would work for the head. The rods are smaller supposedly (noone really knows yet) On sohchonda.com there is a lot of research that is about to be done on the elusive d15b. |

Re:D15BVtec Inquery
Thats odd. I was under the impression that the 88 was the only Rex that had any splinage issues let alone axles. Thank you for all your responses Im having ordering-day paranoia. Must have faith in the 1.5

Re:D15BVtec Inquery
the original ecu that came with the engine was the p08

Re:D15BVtec Inquery
I have a D15B in my civic, all 1.6 parts fit right up to it. I have my D16Z6 head on it because the cam was actually better in it than the D15B. I'm using all Z6 intake parts, distributor, ecu, etc...

Re:D15BVtec Inquery
so i can use a ZC tranny with a p28 and use my z6 mani. what way is best to hook the vtec up?
what about a clutch i'm going to change the clutch when i have it out of the car.. i know someone on here sells clutches.. but i would like to know what one would be good for under 250. |
Re:D15BVtec Inquery
all d series intake manifold are interchangable except the dohc zc. If you run a p28 you already have vtec. If you stay obd0 and dont convert go w/ a rpm switch they work fine no matter what people want to say

Re:D15BVtec Inquery
oh ok so if i got a p28 its just a wire from the ecu to the engine and thats it? ( keep in mind i'm still dpfi)

you need to convert the engine harness to mpfi and run the wries to ecu for the injectors/dist changes. Then buy a obd1 conversion harness and then rewire the o2 wiring/dist plug and wire in vtec at the solenoid/pressure switch and ground. then plug in the p28 and you have vtec. |
Re:D15BVtec Inquery
so then what would be the fastest/ best way. couldn't i just buy a obd1 harness and kinda skip the mpfi. sence that is going to replace the mpfi harness somewhat.
|
Re:D15BVtec Inquery
you still have to do the mpfi conversion
|
Re:D15BVtec Inquery
so something along the lines of this is all i would need to go to obd1 ( minus mpfi)

Re:D15BVtec Inquery
plus an obd1 dist/ 4 wire o2/ plugs for the dist/ plugs for the o2 the ecu the plugs for the vtec wiring plus mpfi conversion engine/chassis side.
