D15b8 8 Valve for Mini-me

Alot of people say a Mini-me HF/CX cant be done.. but can it?

Well yesterday I did a head gasket on a friends car (94 Civic CX) D15b8. And when I took the head off, I noticed it had 4 valve relief's in the top of the pistons. I thought this was a bit odd since the head only had 8 valves. So with this beeing said, I dont see why you couldnt put a z6 or even a y8 head on this engine, and have a mini-me. Lol, if you were to put a z6 head/intake and a nice header with the correct ecu, you would get over a 40hp gain on this setup since the b8 head blows ass... lol

I will check the D15b6 (HF) to see if its the same as well..

do you think maybe honda limited their production of pistons only to those with valve relief with the 92+ civics? I mean, if they aren't making many engines with just the 8 valves, it's not as practical to have separate piston molds as compared to a few years before, when more engines were 8-valve. would 16v pistons affect performace in an 8-valve engine. Sorry, doesn't necesarily address the question, just thought I'd comment.

putting a z6 or y6 on a HF would do what to compression? lower it would be my guess? good for turbo, bad for NA

Well, from what they're saying, you can't put it on an HF, because there are only 2 valve reliefs ont he pistons.

I'm sure it would raise the compression... that tiny fraction of a second before it bent all of your valves. :)

You'd have to swap out pistons, at least.. It'd be easier just to find a DX shortblock for like $75.. Compression is rumored to be higher with the D15B2 than with the A6.. 11.2:1 or so I hear..

For an N/A setup, I wonder what you produce more hp: The higher compression of the B2, or the larger displacement and moderate compression raise of the A6.. Interesting..

i got a buddy of mine who has an HF with a DX head on it...and a SI intake....and a few other odd's and ends here and there...nothing spectacular....he is pushing out 109hp to the wheels....its pretty much pushin out what a stock SI motor has.....here is a link with a lil more info on the subject

Interesting.. Did he look at his pistons first?

From what is sounds like, the HF is an 8 valve engine. Meaning there would only be two valve reliefs per piston, the DX he used would still have to be 8 valve..

Hrm.. Can someone find some hard facts about this?

next time I run out to the barn I will take the HF head off and check out the pistons on the d15b6. Somone needs to find the CC of that head, and we then can calculate C/R's with z6 and y8 heads.

i dont know exactly what dx head he used but its a dx head with an SI intake...he is also running an 89 teg ecu...damn thing hauls ass i say....i was gonna do this to my HF but then i discovered with a lil more funds i can have a B series....now ive finally aquired all of this...just ordered some hasport mounts today and in a few weeks when i can afford it im gonna get the shift linkage...
