D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
Just to get the car going again before I build B and turbo...
I got a free D15b2 block and y7 head. I installed the block, bolted the head on, and now the timing belt that was on the b2 is too long. The head is shaved .010", but that won't be near enough to not let me tension the belt, so I think I need a shorter one. I think this one is 105 teeth? Which one could I use??? |
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
eg d-series timing belts:
d15b7: 106 teeth d16z6: 104 " d15z1: 103 " |
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
you are awesome... I recounted, mine's 106, so I think 103 should work... what's the z1 in, 5th gen vx?
|
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
yeah the VX
|
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
yup vx that one should work
|
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
this better be the last part I need. this is adding up fast...
|
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
oh and just cause I like you.
Part number is: PPE-A5000-35775 or just A5000-35775 And the GoodYear brand should be the cheapest. |
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
ya vx.
i believe you need the z6, y7, or y8 belt. they should have the same teeth. price them out before buying, and count it before installing. |
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
so you think 104 vs. 103? It's milled though, it seems really loose with the 106. Like I can't turn the cam gear by rotating the crank with the tensioner at its max... big floppy timing belt.
I suppose 104 may be a safe bet, too short can't work at all, but a little loose can be tensioned... |
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
any 1.5 block with 1.6 head uses vx belt..
no idea how many tooth tho... :P |
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
Where's that info from Don?
I think it makes sense, but I'm not completely convinced |
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
do u have the b2 head still? measure the deck to centre of cam height, compare to the y8 and get the appropriate belt.
i can see using a VX belt on a 1.5l w/ a vtec head, but a y7 is a non vtec head? |
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
yeah, the y7 is off the 6th gen DX... d16y7. I'm gonna go pick up the VX belt and try it out...
|
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
after you get this running let me know how well this worked out
i got a spare d15 block and my old a6 head and im sure im going to have some extra ---- i wanna build some mini me bullshit and boost it to kingdomcum...:) werd |
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
The a6 head will use the 106 tooth belt, that's what I had in the car. the y7 should use the 103 (fingers crossed). No one in town had the VX belt, so I ordered on hondaautomotiveparts.com which was way cheaper anyway. Should be here by the weekend and I'll let everyone know if it works...

Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
VX belt fit perfect, thought that was all I needed, but my inline fuel pump went bad... gotta get a new one... :'(
|
Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
i used a d16z6 belt on my d15b1 with a Y7 head

Re:D15b2 and y7 head...which timing belt?
This isn't a drag car... the LSD tranny will go in this winter, and the drag radials aren't going to happen. I run A032R Advans for road race though, and they should grip good if I try dragging it.
The Z6 belt probably would work, only one 2 difference, the tensioner would just be closer to it's upper range. I slipped this belt on with no issue, so I'm happy and the car runs. My head was milled .010", not a huge difference, but may make the belt a touch easier to slip on. |
