Default D-series Vx/Cx tranny noise

Car: All stock 95 Vx

Just got it all together and while I downshift into first, the tranny whines pretty loudly. My old Vx tranny had a quieter whine in first, but it was always present, not just while going into the gear, as this tranny seems to do. This tranny has a lot less miles on it, but makes a louder whine, only when downshifting into the gear. From a stop, starting out in first, the tranny does not make the noise (this is why I find this a little perplexing).

I did also install a new exedy clutch in an OEM PP, could the exedy clutch be what is making the noise? I don't think, considering I had a stg 1 exedy clutch (same as this) in my Integra I just sold, and it never made this noise, even before it was broken in. The flywheel this is installed on is a factory lighter weight d series flywheel that I didn't get shaved (I just sanded it down with some sand-paper instead), and I used a PP that looked about 20k miles old, that was a factory replacement grade. I also replaced the t/o bearing with a new one, and replaced the pilot bearing.

Every other gear upshifts and downshifts without noise, it's just stupid first that makes the loud whine just when going into the gear, and the noise stops once my foot is off the clutch. I really don't want to rip out the tranny again, so for now, I'll avoid downshifting into first. This would be easy with "normal" tranny gearing, but it'll be a semi-challenge w/these econogears in this tranny.

Is this noise a bearing that is bad or is this an issue with the syncronizers or gears (even though it's not really a grind at all, just a loud whine)? I do have another good tranny, so if this problem will eventually make me lose 1st, it's not really a big issue, I'm just wondering what the bad part is here.

Thanks for the input. I'm a tranny newb, sorry. :1

not making any sense to me.........

only thing I can think of is the roller bearing under the gear on first or second gear.

A buddys sounds like he has a procharger in second gear, it whines THAT loud.

After the shifter is in 1st gear, while downshifting into it, only while I let out the clutch, does the car whine when going into first gear. When my foot is entirely off the clutch, no noise. When starting from a stop in first, no noise. Only when downshifting into it... It confuses me too. I've only driven the car about 2 miles on this "newer" tranny so far that was supposed to be 100% perfect (bought from a fellow HMTr).....but then again, I seem to be having trouble with buying things off of here lately.

Actually, it is at least that loud in the car.

Well this tranny just gets better and better.

Now first gear whines a LOT when going into it (normal for this tranny).

First gear whines all the time (just noticed)

Second gear whines (noticed today)

Third gear whines (noticed today)

Now my 242k mile tranny that was fine that will now go BACK in tommorrow. I only bought this tranny thinking the high mile tranny would ---- on me soon, but it seems to me like lower mileage trannies and fresh Honda MTF = a whining pain in my ------- ***.

It wouldnt **** me off much if I got this tranny from a junkyard, or got it for cheap. But $85 for a Cx tranny is not cheap, and this was from a HMT user that said it was good. Not saying he's a bad seller yet, and not saying names, but hopefully we can resolve this.

I'm thinking I'll just crack this one open to fix it for use as a future econo-geared tranny. Following some directions plus some patience should make that a doable fix.

I have another tranny I bought with my lower mile vtec-e motor, that is complete ---- too, and I think I'll take the gears out, and have some fun smashing the worthless case with a sledge...that would make me a little happier I think.

ISB is dead, ran low on fluid.

$30 in parts to fix, I can whip thru it in under a hour.

That would probably translate to about 8 hours for me. But I'll give it a shot.

I think I remember seeing some good "how to rip apart your tranny" thread on d-series.org...not sure if it was there though.

Do you have a link to a good thread like that? Thanks.
