D series valves
I am working on rebuildinga D16Y8 head for my 99 EX. I have decided to keep the current camshaft i was talking about in my previous post (crane cams camshaft). My question is, are there oversized valves I can buy that can be used on the head with little or prefrebly no fabrication or machine work? And if so who makes em and where can I get em. I know skunk2 makes some, but they are HELLA expensive.

Re:D series valves
you could just have them cleaned, and the put a 3 angle valve job on them. but there are really no valves that would help you. valve springs mgiht, so you dont have any valves "floating".

Re:D series valves
Yeah, I'm buying the matching valve springs and retainers that are recommended for my camchaft, also made by crane cams. Like I said, I know skunk2 makes valves for the d16y8, but for a set its like $400+ ($24.98 ea.)

Re:D series valves
I know skunk doesnt recommend running os valves in sg 2 cams or larger. Mix matching parts can get dangerous. Best deal with one company that has true tested set ups

Re:D series valves
Then what Im thinkin is, just buy new factory honda valves, that way it'll be a fresh start.

Re:D series valves
I think he meant to stick with the brand of your cam...

Re:D series valves
If you want valve work just get a angle grind more than enough

Re:D series valves
There are oversized valves...Z6...y8 is just the same I guess.
But there is always some serious machining ... you need to put new valves seats. |
Re:D series valves
Maybe expensive, but you could have a machine shop "back cut" the valves, which basiclly reduces the stem dia. right before it tulips out.
My stealth has 1mm oversized ferrea valves... I paid $1300 installed !!! Never curse the civic aftermarket !!! The civic stuff is sooo cheap, I can't believe I/we complain and go as far as building are own ghetto stuff, hehehe. |
Re:D series valves
And "installed" was me taking the heads off and shipping them to Sna dieago,CA !! It did include presure testing, seals, 5-angle vavle job, and shipping... Still not cheap, but it had bent valves to begin with...
