D-series trans info needed
I got a z6 tranny and apparently 1st gear has issues in it and maybe 4th, so I was thinking about swapping gears in from my dx tranny since the gears are identical in both of those as far as I have found, but I kinda need some info on tearing up the transmissions before I do. Any info would be awesome.

Re: D-series trans info needed
thanks. I know a friends who does it, but he mostly just knows the final drive part and nothing else. I may just try and see where it leads. worst case I still have another DX trans that I can use.

Re: D-series trans info needed
EXPLAIN the issues first.

Re: D-series trans info needed
I am just told it makes noises in first gear consistently while driving. I just bought it this way so I am not 100% sure on its issues.

Re: D-series trans info needed
Input shaft bearing, common failure point when fluid level not kept up to correct level.
$35 in parts..... If trans is out of the car, grab the shaft and wiggle it, if it wiggles it gets replaced! |
Re: D-series trans info needed
can I steal it from another trans and also is there any other parts I should check/swap while I am at it?

Re: D-series trans info needed
remember the counter shaft is reverse threaded.... and to pull the case theres a clip on the inside of the tranny that you have tou take out somehow...
i dont remember becaues i looked up for my tranny(d16a1) thinking its the same but there different so i didnt read in full depth... |
Re: D-series trans info needed
don't be a cheap ass, buy a new bearing and seal and FIX the problem.
Spec out the shifter forks while at it. Also the dumpshit in the post above, must be smoking crack thinking a CS is reverse threaded. You don't remember because you were to ------- STONED to know! |
Re: D-series trans info needed
building a transmission really isnt that hard....have you ever taken one apart b4? either auto or manual?...i think personally i would wrather tear up an auto just because i know them a little better....but manual isnt hard....if you ---- it up youll know pretty quick for the most part hah
