D series Tranny ???

alright people...ive got a question....ive got a 91 crx HF tranny in my car right now...im gonna throw the thing out the window...well not literally but im gonna take it out of the car....what D series transmission is the optimal for 300 hp ?? and is any D series a direct bolt in ?? its going on a turbo zc motor and if i get a certain type of D series tranny do i need the axles that go with that tranny ??...i dont wanna do a ---- load of fabrications...just a good D series tranny that can handle 300 hp...will a crx SI or DX tranny be ok ? and will i have to get different axles since i have an HF setup ?

thanks...

z6 tranny with LSD
replace the input shaft bearing and seal, and see if you can get a hold of a steel shifter fork to replace the alum. one...which could break kinda easy on you if you're racing it out a lot...but you dont really have to do the shifter fork. also check the condition of the syncros and make sure they're in good shape before you put it all back together...they arent expensive from honda.

The z6 tranny P20/A20 doesnt fit in the 4g civic chasis, plus its hydraulic. Not to mention they are not that much stronger than a stock l3 series tranny. Honda trannys are weak links, the SI and ZC have the bigger diff's on the l3's I am using a ZC trans in my built zc race car, which should have plenty of horsepower.

IF you use a ZC trans in your car, you will need to replace the hubs to 88-91 si/dx. If you are looking for traction to be a problem and need an LSD, they do make a very rare ZC LSD trans, but I dont think their is that many floating around.

sk8rmike, is correct about the shift forks, they break incredibly easy.

Re:D series Tranny ???

i really dont want to use the zc tranny cause i know bout the lsd shortage and i dont want to aquire a set of zc axles and intermediate shaft....id rather keep my stock axles and just put an SI tranny right into place if thats possible...im not gonna run a full 300hp to start off with i just want it to bolt into place...where would i aquire a steel shift fork at ?

anyone have any idea how i can aquire a manifold for my turbo ???...i need one..or can i use my stock hf exhaust manifold and fabricate it somehow ?...or what should i do..cause im gonna need one really soon.

Well that is what this website is all about, we have plenty of projects, and lots of resources on how to make your own setup. We are not going to simple be like ok buy this this and this. On custom kits, you do the work, you learn what is needed, and come up with the parts. Please read through all the projects, and the posts, to get an idea.

lol....my bad...i just went under my hood and looked at the manifold and i just relized....it can be used....
ok ive got my manifold now...just gotta aquire the rest of the stuff

hey i got one question though...alright..im not the welder at all..my step dad is..but his job doesnt have pipe bending machines and he doesnt wanna weld sections of pipes together to make charge pipes..will a muffler shop prolly make custom charge pipes or coule i use flex exhaust hose on low boost...like say 8 psi ?...or what can i use ??...cause i seen in ur first turbo u have flex exhaust pipe but the rest of them have welded pipes...what do u recommend under low boost ?

btw...do any of u use cat convertors on ur turbo setups ?? i know its illegal to run without one...but u guys use them ?

Re:D series Tranny ???

Your dad doesnt have to weld any of those charge pipes, you just need to find someone with a chop saw. Buy all the mandrel bent tubing from www.jcwhitney.com lots of ---- 180's 90's etc etc. Pretty cheap stuff, that will work perfect. Visualize how everything is going to be routed and make cuts, to connect the pipes together go to napa and they have rubber hose you can use to connect the pipes together.

this is what we do on most of our projects.

No, none of us use cat convertors, they slow spool times, plus they give some extra power once they are gone.

thanks dude....all this information & advice you are giving is worth a million in gold...if i could afford it...if give u a donation....or that paypal thing i seen once here on ur site....anywho...thanks dude...i already found the pipes on jcwhitney's site and they are cheap...i figured my best bet before i slap the turbo on the zc motor...and speaking since this is my first turbo setup...im gonna boost this HF motor i have already in the car and get used to installing the turbo and learn how to tune it right...so if i blow a motor...it wont be the ZC...well..thanks for all your help...ive recommended this site to just bout anyone who is thinking of boosting...thanks again
