Cyclinder head question

My brother was drving his Eclipse to work awhile ago, he said he was going about 10-15mph and the engine died and wouldn't start again. I pulled off the timing belt and found out that the ripped off 5 teeth on the lower left hand side gear. Anyways i replaced the timing belt and it doesn't even try to fire. We got spark and fuel, does this mean the vavles are too badly bent to even want to fire or do you think its possible i didn't put the timing belt in time? I've tried adjusting the distrubtor and nothing. Thanks for any help.

Are you sure the timing belt is on right? Does it sound like it has -0- compression? I'd check the timing belt first.

Can you tell if the belt is out of time if i already cranked it over or do i just need to take if off and redo everything? It sounds like it normally does when i've crank it and started it before this happend.

Re:Cyclinder head question

Just put the crank at TDC and make sure the cam gear(s) are where they should be. Not too sure how the DSM have the markings.

I think its the vavles because on the compression stroke i can turn with out a breaker bar with one hand. I can't find the ------ notch on the damn pulley. :-\

Well if the timing belt was off you would have valves opening on the compression stroke, which would equal -0- compression. ;)
