Default CX tranny good for FI

I'll be boosting in about 2 weeks once I get my BOV and piping for my downpipe. And right now I in need of a throwout bearing but being up in WI not too many places (autozone, checker....) don't keep these in stock and need to special order these (3-5 days shipping)and I need my car back on the road before then for work. A local guy has a CX tranny and how would that do with a turbo with it having long gears over my y8 tranny? I need something ASAP. I was just wondering since people usually like tranny's with longer gearing for FI over something that has shorter gear ratios like the z6 and y8 trannies?

the cx tranny is going to be slower, the only reason people like longer gear tranny's is for traction issues. I would try to get that bearing and use the y8.

this topic is one that has been covered a few times over. Jeff is not a big fan of the dx/cx trannies and will tell you that SI/EX are the way to go. I like the SI trannies over the DX counterparts in older hondas.

but if you're desperate then do what you gotta do.

hey with the cx tranny wouldn't you be doin' like 80 in second and like a buck 20 in third? :P

Throw out bearings are over rated, but if you really wanna do it right, and the cx tranny is cheap just buy it as a temp, but i wouldn't fork more than 50 bones for it.

I used to like my DX gears. It still topped out at around 120. I wouldn't take 5th gear much farther past that. I think it was like 5800rpm. 3rd gear really sucked ***. If I were in a close race in the beginning I always knew when I hit third gear I was going to get smoked.

I just went from a CX to a Y8 tranny and there is a noticable difference.

P.S. have that CX tranny for sale!

CX tranny = poo poo

Y8 tranny = yay!

Being able to rip through the gears and keep the rpms up high is a definte advantage with a honda.

Y8 tranny= funny sounds and grinding
CX= only 20 dollars and smooth shifting tranny
Being able to drive without the fear of having my tranny take a ---- somewhere is a big advantage for me! Maybe I can find another y8 or Z6 tranny somewhere in the future.

Keep in mind when using a tranny with longer gears it puts more of a load on the engine/clutch. I wore out 3 clutches one summer with a DX tranny. Might be worth your time/money just to find the right tranny.
