crx idle problem

I have a 91 crx with a sohc zc in it and it recently started to rev up on its own to 1500 rpms then fall back down then do it again over and over while its idling. It did this before and i checked my oil put some in and it stopped, dont ask me why it stopped but it did. I tried doing the same thing again but it didnt work and it stil does this. Can anyone help Thanks

by the way this isnt my first post i had to re register because i couldnt remember my log on name. lol

there are a bunch of things that can cause this, but for starters, clean your EACV and the air passages in your throttle body... carb cleaner should do the trick.
if that doesn't fix it, check your TPS sensor.

Re:crx idle problem

My guess.. Idle air control valve.. they go out on crx's all the time. To verify.. while its doing the (idle bouncing) take the intake pipe off, and put your finger over the air oriface jet inside the throttle body, this should stop the bouncing. Almost certain this is the problem, because its really the only thing that controls the idle.

Good luck,
Jeff

i agree.. but a bouncy idle is 1 of two things. when IACV's go bad the cycle, full open, then close, so your idle goes up and down. other wise you have a vac leak somewhere.

i would say u have a vac leak.... i just did a swap in my buddies car and the idle would bounce from like 2000-2600 or soo and sometime would just stay a 3000.when i would undo the connector to the iacv it would stop but of coase throw a light,so i put a new one on still did the same thing.the only way i would get it to stop was by unpluging the vac line to the map(i guess b/c this senses air coming in that isint suposed to be there?) or unpluging the iacv( i guess b/c this is what the ecu uses to adjust the idle acording to the map voltage?) but anyway i found a bb sized whole in the brake booster line (so thats why his brakes felt shitty :P) so now it just bounces from like 800-1500 i guess i still have a nother leak somewhere. hope this might help :-\

well i had just put new brakes and rotors on the car over the summer and when u would nail the brakes they would lock up.then i drove it ofter the swap and u would mash on them and they would go down like as far as normal but they wouldnt lock up or stop u hardly, they wouldnt go to the floor or need pumped like u had a bad master cyl.

Hey check to see if you have a small leak in your radiator. My car would only bounce if you reved up and held it at any given rpm. Then I fixed the leak and it quit doing that.
