could a stock b20b block be filled to help stregthen weak sleeves?
 

I need a new longblock soon. My engine is gonna be toast sometime. I am tihnking about buying a b20b from password or maybe finding a cheap b18a longblock and having it rebuilt with aftermarket pistons and rods.

i always hear that people say b20's have weak sleeves. well my question is, by filling the block, could the engine be run like an ls stock? maybe 10-14 pounds without having to worry about cracking a sleeve.

Filling it will help, yes, but the siamesed sleeves are going to distort when they start expanding from heat. At what point they stop being reliable I do not know.

With what most places want for a B20, you can usually sling another $100 at the problem and sleeve a free LS shorty.

The b20 is tempting because on the west coast alot of the importers basically dump them,.450-550 is market value now

Okay, $150-200 and a free LS shorty to sleeve, depending on your hookups. I think Chris was given an offer of $675 for the Pinks car's engine. I've been offered $700 a couple times, and GE has a standing offer of $875 *shipped both ways* to a friend of mine.

Call me a wussy. I'd LOVE a cheapass B20 for a NA beater engine. I'd stick to a 1.8 liter bottom end if I had to have a stock sleeve B-series turbo engine. I know it's mostly paranoia, but LS/GSR bottom end is proven good.

Yah. Brian Hunt's mid 10 sec street tire CRX only had 450 and suspension was fairly mundane just fresh.
