Copper Head Gasket
 

Well i figured that the damn car has probably been running on the same head gasket since it was built like 10 years ago.... and with me squeezing its probably on its last leg... anyways... i just wanted to know if this gasket was any good... I mean for the price... its like $10 more than a stock one would be...

Copper headgaskets leak small amounts of oil and coolant, not ideal for a daily driver. They were cutting edge 1970's technology, and by todays standards they suck. I doubt they work any better than an OEM metal Honda gasket.

I had pretty good luck with mine, I think one of the only advantages is that they come in so many different thicknesses, so you can pretty much up/down your c/r by about 1 full point. If you use the right sealant on the gasket you should have no problems, plus they are reuseable.

But as mentioned, you have to get the block o-ringed or the head.. and the best way to go is get both done, so you can have a receiver grove.

How much is it to get that done? I wasn't believing you had to o-ring the head to use that gasket. That's crazy. Why is that? I don't see the difference. ???

The copper gasket has no rings that will crush for sealing, that why you need O-rings machined in. so when its torqued down, the soft copper can crush. Now, like I said.. you can just do the head, or the block. But lots of people do both for best sealing. Call up SCE, they will tell you all about it. I think most machine shops charge like 175-350 bucks.

Oh... ok i get it... so pretty much the copper gasket is just flat and wont seal right....

so when they machine the head... they leave a little bit more material surrounding the cylinder so it will substitute for the lack of sealing ring things... and if you have it done to both the head and block it will seal better.... K got it...

Not quite.. they actually make a groove in the head, just like the block.
