Default Compression Test.....Results are in.....

I did a compression test last night on the 92 b16a DA. I just don't feel it runs as good as it should.

Results

205-190-210-205

the 3 cylinders that are high, gave us a reading right away, the low one took a few more cranks to get there.

What do you think?

I'm now getting a CEL light after driving for a bit, if I turn off the car while driving and back on, it will go away, then come back after a few minutes. I'll have to check that today.

Also getting the oil light to come on and off, while the car is cold, after it runs for a little while it goes away. I had a similar problem with the b18 in that car before, I changed the pressure switch and that corrected the problem. I have a new pressure switch for this car. I'll try that today also.

The guy that owned the engine, just told me he did run a turbo on it, he showed me the kit, and it was an SSAC , ran for a few months with no problem. Now he told me he had no fuel management and was running 6-8psi. I guess the compression test isn't too bad, but that lower cylinder could be a problem.

I dont see that being a problem.Spec is what max 25-30psi between cylinders? What is the CEL it is throwing?I would investigate that and take care of the oil light. The 6psi no management Good thing he didnt manage to do any damage. What did you finally decide to do with all your cars?

this is a b16 correct? 190 is low. Some damage somewhere in that motor. Leakdown.

my b16 throws out like 170 psi +/- 10 psi in all cylinders, boosted for about 6 months, still runs like a champ, no broken ringlands, maybe a bit of ring wear, but it still runs as smooth as it did the day i got it from top end motorsports over a year ago...

word.

oil pressure thing sounds like a dented oilpan blocking the pickup.

Yes it is a b16a,

I want to sell the car, but I wanted to test it and try to find the problem.

But if it is that much I won't bother just sell it. I have not have time to check the CEL.

Maybe I'll change my mind and end up putting some high comp pistons.

I'll have to check the oil pan later also.

I might as well ask also. I guess I can just buy a leakdown tester at any autoparts store. On a b16 what % of leak shoul I expect or be allowed. up to 5% maybe?

if only the one cylinder is bad I guess I can flatrate it and just fix the one.

a minimal build would require what pistons and rings and a headgasket?

I'm not sure I want to do this yet, but we'll see.
