cold start knock!!! help
ok I am having a problem with my gsr I just rebuilt the motor new bearings oil pump the works right. and I have about 300 miles on it right now and am having problems with cold start knocking for about 1 to 1.5 secs til the oil pressure reads on the guage then its gone all together. the bearings all speced out perfectly. ideas guys. bad oil filters I have done two changes on it both using frame tuf guard filters and and there syn blend valveoline oil. could it be a bad pickup gasket? or are my bearings on there way out for no reason?

Alternatively, bypass valve could be sticking, oil pump loosing prime(pickup gasket), sump pickup too close to the pan(bent pan).

Re: cold start knock!!! help
the bearings were all pretty much .0015 like a stock honda is usually same as the last dozen builds I have done. I am using 10w30. the pan isn't bent and neither is the pickup. but I did reuse the pickup gasket and put a thin layer of red rtv on it. do you think that it could have failed? the oil pump is a brand new itr pump so I don't think the bypass valve is messed up. I just changed the oil filter from a fram tuff guard to a mobil 1 filter. I had heard some of the v8 guys were crushing the frame's filters do to high oil pressure levels. I will let you know in the morning if it worked.

The RTV is a possibilty, ive never used 'red' on anything that held oil pressure, so im not sure how that would turn out.
Is your motor boosted yet? What sort of piston-to-wall clearance are you running/were measuring? Ring gap?
IMHO all turbo engines should be running at least a 40 weight oil fyi.

the car was just built to get to work and back for now. I traded my 92 turbo ls hatch for it. so no boost on the teg. and piston to wall clearence was nice and tight still. ring gap I can't rember the exact spec on but it was almost what brand new specs would be for a honda motor.
