code 9 - WTF!!!! & Code #9 again...MERGED

Code 9______No. 1 cylinder position

i keep getting this code as soon as i turn my car on. how the hell do i fix this and what the hell caused it? my afc was acting up this morning, some of the connections must have come loose some how, because i noticed the display had turned off. i fixed the loose connections and made sure they were secure. my afc works again, but now i keep getting this code. i have tried resetting the ecu twice, but that didn't help. any suggestions are welcome.

also, i just read that this is only a valid code on dohc motors. is this true? if so, WTF? i have a sohc and am using a pm6 ecu.

Re:code 9 - WTF!!!!

no it is good on sohc motors and usually waht causes it is the dizzy. the berrring in the dizzy starts to get sloppy and then it makes the sensor think its off. Time to replace the lower half of the dizzy!

Code #9 again...

I tried not to repost, but i could not reply here: https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...threadid=10323

Well, i have this problem also on an a6 dizzy, and the cheapest i can get a used dizzy around here is 185$.That is the only one around here in the metro detroit area junkyards(the 7 wire one)and it might not even be there anymore. And the fucken car doesn't run well with the cel. Well, the dealership wants like 600$ for a new one and like 400ish for the bottom end... so i'm fucked because the distributor crapped out like 3 days ago with a bad ignition coil, i relpaced that and now its sunday and everything is close... what i wanted to know is if there is any way i can use parts off of my z6 dizzy to make this one work. thanks

Re:Code #9 again...

----! need another quick question answered... okay, i really don't have any money i wanna spend on this car since i plan on keeping it in the garage almost all of the winter so that it doesn't rust due to michigan's overuse of road salt and since the car hasn't seen that ---- yet. In that garage i'm finally gonna throw my turbo on, which includes a 6-btm... so i wanna know if i need to fix the dizzy for the btm to run, which i am relizing more and more that i do.. ----... ???! so.. where is the site shipping from?? :-\

The BTM will proberly requite you ahvea full correct dizzy in there. The site is in colorado but it should only take 3-4 days to get to you.

did you try posting a WTB here in the classifieds to see if maybe someone or 10 has one laying around?

Re:Code #9 again...

yeah, that's the thing is that i needed it right now! i needed it to get my car going so i could get to school... well that didn't fucken work. I spent like 160$ at a junkyard that i had to visit twice (30 min away from me each way = 2 hours of driving) because they had to pull it off and the people that did that ---- were at lunch.

The problem was even worse... i got into the car the next day after the cel, and it didn't start! It didnt' even crank! SO... i was 'what the ---- could cause this.' First thing was check the alarm that i bought the car with, and tired to unhook the thing... didn't work! So, i took off the starter and alternator(i was thinking maybe my ---- kept going wrong cause my alterator was bad) and these shits checked out to be fine. I donno what else could be wrong.... all i know is that when i tried to push start it w/ the bad dizzy, it worked but with the cel. Maybe bad igniton switch??? Any and all help would be appreciated!

ok, ,so you got a junkyard dizzy and popped it on, no go?

did u swap the coil, ignitor, cap and rotor from your dizzy to the JY one? still not even cranking? checked the battery?

did you check the wires at the plugs for the dizzy? bad connection ect. ECU ground on the thermostat housing? Did you clear the codes?

Not being rude but a little details abouy the JY dizzy would help. I mean there IS a chance you got a bad one.

Also read the Chiltons and do the tests with the ohm meter.

Re:code 9 - WTF!!!! & Code #9 again...MERGED

Hey, Yeah, sorry about the lack of detail. Um.. i tried to reply twice and my ---- kept freezing, so the typing i did got erased and it being a lot of tyring, it pissed me off… so I just went outside and fucked with the car.

Anyways, allow me to clarify everything. I was having trouble with my dizzy, it threw a cel when i was driving one day. I pulled over and luckly i had my chiltons with me, and found out it was a code 9-umm.. No. 1 cylinder position. I'm like ----! I get home and read the post about this code . When i get to check it out the next day, i turn the key and the car does not crank. the starter does not spin, the car does start, it doesn't work(just like when you try to start your car w/o pushing in the clutch)! I got pissed off and push it into my driveway and try to figure out what it is. I check the alarm that was installed before i bought the car. The fucker that put it in did a piss poor job and the wiring was all over the place and all fucked up, so i though it might be that. I ended up just bypassing the alarm(after a fuckload of trouble w/ the crazy ass features and ----) and try to start the car. That didn't work. I ended up trying to push start it and it started right up, but it still had the code 9. So, i began thinking it was maybe the starter, so i took it out and got it tested. It turned out to be okay. Well, then i went to a junkyard to get a dizzy cause I knew I needed one anyways (only ones that had it and they are a bunch of fucks and charged me 159$ for the bitch...long story) Well, it had a bunch of wires cut, well, had the plastic stripped off on some spots for some reason. So i fixed that up and put it in! (took a while because i have a z6 in my 89 rex and had to Dermal the ---- out of the bitch to get it timed correctly.) Then i tried to start it, but blew the damn 60A fuse somehow. I checked all the dizzy wires and added more electrical tape. Then i replaced it and it blew again. I knew that now it was due to the fucked up wiring in the alarm, so i re-did some of that. Finally put a third one it and it did not blow, but the car still didn't start. I ended up push starting it again to see if the dizzy is in working order. It worked fine and no engine light! That was good, but I was fucken going nuts, i could not understand why the hell it wouldn't start. I was thinking maybe my ignition switch(didn’t think so, it turned the radio and other ---- on) or the (i can't remember what it is called right now) thing that makes you push the clutch down before the car starts. So, i look under the pedals and by the fuse box and wiggle all wires and make sure all connections are tight and good. I get the key in and the bitch starts! After all that ----, it was some kind of loose connection! At least that is over and i can go on with the rest of my life.

Thanks to all of you guys for reading and posting w/ the info. I just hope no one has to go through this ---- ever, and maybe someone will find my struggle helpful to him or her.
Here are few pics of the car during its transplant i figured i'd let you see :
