code 1 with closed loop disabled???

Default code 1 with closed loop disabled???
why the ---- is my car throwing code 1 (oxygen sensor) when closed loop is disabled? The signal wire for the o2 did pull out of the connector at the ecu (d14 i think) But with closed loop disabled, it shouldnt make a difference...
