Which clutch kit would you buy for a b series.

I always thought ACT was the best, but I didn't really have a reason too other then seeing success with them on others cars. Well now it's come time for me to be choosing a clutch for my b16 swap, and I'm not sure which kits are worth the money. To give you a little backround, for now this will be on the na b16, but im looking to donate it to a turbo b18 project in the future.

I want something that has the capability to hold at least twice that of the stock disc. Does this have more to do with the clamping force from the p plate or the clutch disc design? I was thinking if I did go ACT i would get the XTSS kit, extreme p plate and organic disc. Do you agree, what would be something similar that say exedy or clutch masters would offer? I heard exedy makes ACT's clutches so wouldnt it make sense to go with them since theyre cheaper?

Basically, if your knowledgeable about this subject I'd like to hear your words of advice and what youve seen to be a great product for the price.

Abaz do you know where the ability to hold more power comes from, is it mainly the disc or p plate? You think acts the best huh...its pretty much what I always thought. XT wont be too stiff for daily driver will it?

The ability of the clutch to hold load is called clamp load. It's measured in foot pounds just like a bolt. The higher the clamp load the more power it will hold. This is done by changing where the pivot point (called the fulcrum) is in the pressure plate. Most of the time the aftermarket companies start with a stock pressure plate and modify it. As for the disk, it doesn't really matter how much load the disk takes unless you love dumping the clutch. What happenes when you do this is the damper springs on the disk can pop out. Alot of the after market disks have no springs so they can pop out. The problem with this is that it is harder on the hole drive train. Because there is no dampening of the engagement. Lastly there is the friction material on the disk. Alot of aftermarket companies put ceramic friction material on the disk. This is great for grip, but it tends to be VERY hard on the flywheel. It's hard to find a good compromise between ceramic and Organic material (what a stock clutch disk has) The absolutely best material that I have seen is kevlar, it's grips VERY well but it doesn't destroy your flywheel, not to mention the fact that it can put up with Shitloads of heat. If you buy the ACT clutch and have the disk relined with kevlar. You will have just about the best setup you can get. Sorry to ramble on...but all I do all day everyday is sell clutches.

I think he said it pretty well...

I like act, they seem to be pretty good.

Also you can get your flywheel stepped a few thou, and make the PP bite a bit more. I had mine cut down a bit, cant remember the exact spec the machine shop did.. hmm?
I am using a Xtreme w/ a stock GSR disc and its fine.

your not rambling zeus. good stuff man thanks. ty too abaz.

I see Action uses kevlar discs on some of their kits, but all it says is hevy duty p plate with kevlar race disc. Im assuming the race disc means it would almost have no play for feathering and would not be useable on the street?
