clutch engaging problems

i swaped a ls engine in my 95 civic coupe after i took my b16 and turbo stuff out to get ready to sell it. it has the y80 tranny that came with my b16 and a used act clutch and pressure plate also. i had it running for a few days everything was perfect and i was going to sell it after i got a few things sorted with the car. well as i was on my street coming home the clutch started acting up and wouldnt let me shift gears at all. well it seemed pretty bad so i took the tranny off and everything clutch and pressure plate seemed fine so i ended up just putting everything back together, thinking maybe the bearing fell off the fork or something crazy. well its still acting up but it sometimes seems fine, it will shift into gear when im sitting still. then other times it wont shift into gear, and seem to clatter some. i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. almost seems like its not engaging the clutch enough. should i buy a new slave cylinder? any ideas? thanks

Re: clutch engaging problems

springs in the clutch disc, typical B issue.

Re: clutch engaging problems

springs just crappy? ya i guess i was just kinda hoping i didnt have to replace the clutch. besides the springs looking ok by the eye, is that most likely the problem?

Re: clutch engaging problems

did you look at the metal around the springs or see how loose they were?

Re: clutch engaging problems

I'm not saying that is the issue, I've only drove a B motor setup twice.

But these same symtoms keep coming up.......another Honda common failure point.

Ignitor
Main Relay
B clutches

see where I'm going.......another vote for SOHC D power!

lol ya, my other clutches seemed to work fine, this is a stupid act stage one or some crap that i only paid like 50$ for with the pressure plate because it was slightly used, well i bought that and a b16 head awhile ago for 250 the head was bare with parts. i ended up selling the head for 250 to get my money back so basically i didnt pay anything for this. i should of sold it to some sap like i was planning on lol. well ya ill be taking the tranny off again to get a better look, i mean what else could it be. sounds like most likely the clutch is acting up i just didnt want to pay for a new one.

Typical for any sprung disk. Highly depends on the manufacturer.

id check out the slave cylinder first, before you go ripping the trans off again. Just have someone push the pedal and see if that fucker moves enough, then bleed/change it accordingly

ive done all that besides trying a new one. seems to be moving enough. and bleed it even though it didnt need bleeding. did it a few times lol.

its possible if your capable of doing it ;D or could be even better not putting in the disk at all when you finish putting it all back together and see it peeking at you behind some garbage. or do like this idiot brother my uncle has and just forget to put the torque converter in(auto of course)......

my ---- went out on me last night cuz it leaked all the fluid out and the cylinder filled with air so it wouldnt shift. i refilled it and bled it and it works fine.

had the same issue with my clutch. You can buy a rebuild kit for the slavecilinder that's what I did.

Re: clutch engaging problems

well i got some time this morning pulled it all apart, and i was surprised the flywheel was lose, but that and the little metal that pushes up against the springs were also scraped and worn. the last time i took it out it wasnt lose. BUT the cheap ass i am didnt have a torque wrench and didnt take the time to borrow my dads so im guessing they got lose with the extra vibrations and not being properly torqued lol. so im going to do it right this time and buy a new clutch and borrow my dads torque wrench. now the question is did my clutch ---- its self up or was it because of not torqing down the flywheel bolts equell and them getting lose. i took some pictures but my camera sucks so bad im not even going to bother
