Default cluster swap

I would like to put a different gauge cluster in my 88 hb. I would like to put in an hf one because of the red at 5k but a crx/si one would be ok too. Will any of them plug right in or do I have to do a little wiring?

get an 88-89 for your car. 90-91 will need a few pins moved.

So there is no difference for si, dx, crx, hf cluster wiring? Will my car since its a dx have a wire for the tach? If I do get a 90-91 are the wires the same colors so I can swap pins?

Yeah I too needed to re-trace the circuit board on the back of the cluster to verify where ewach wire went. Alot of the websites got pretty screwy with the wiring and I had to do everything a 2nd and 3rd time before realizing that the website was incorrect.
here's a short writeup and some diagrams of how I went about swapping an 89 cluster in my 91 hatch. Some of the info may heb of some help. https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...?topic=33345.0

So as long as the cluster is from an 88-89 it will plug right up?

yeah it's bright, but it's an amber color. I can live with it for now. The only problem that I've found when swapping the 89 cluster to the 90-91 is I get a VSS code. The 90-91's have a speed sensor signal intensifier on the back, the older ones didn't and I don't have that sensor to hook up to the old one and try. But if you had it, I'm sure it would be fixable.
