Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
I say a long time ago of a nice shiney block cleaned with a Product that had the word "Purple" in it's name. nyone remeber or know what it is?
Or does anyone have and good block cleaning agents. I'm not just talking about degreasing it, I mean make it good enough to eat off of!! I have at work Acid wash that we use one our trailers before finishing, It's a high Acidity Cirtric, but I 've used this stuff in the ppast and it doesn't cut through grease that well. |
Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
Never Mind. After Scrolling trough 6 Pages Searching for "Purple" I found the post of Hotrex's Cleaning Engine Bay
Purple Power is what it is Called. |
Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
im sandblasting mine then powdercoating it, so i dont have to worry about it ;D
|
Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
Well I started sandblasting mine last night too, but the head is not getting disassembled so I need a good and strong alternative for that.
|
Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
nothin gets down better then usein a tooth brush or wire brush lol alot or work and ---- but comes out clean.
|
Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
i wouldnt sandblast a head imo. Just use the purple power and a wire wheel if need
|
Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
No I don't want to sandblast the head. Right now it's soaking in a 5gallon tub af varsol getting hit be a wire brush every 30min or so. Works great. Next to no cost. I could find Pruple Power so this is what my parts guy suggested.

Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
------- parts brush with brake cleaner has never failed for me
|
Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
Figured since this thread was started I'll ask a question. I have my block disassembled as well. What if any, do you guys use to clean the area where the bearings go? I just used some paper towel to wipe it down... but brush or anything corrosive... any thoughts?

Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
How did abaz clean those motors in his articles?
(i'm guessing theres a proper parts washer in that workshop right?) |
Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
Well im sure that most of those have been cleaned by the machine shop he uses to do the blocks before hand, not for sure but im sure he has them decked or honed or boarded at a machine shop

Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
oven cleaner works pretty good too
|
Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
im a big fan of carb cleaner
|
Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
I use parts washer and Kerosine. If you don't have one..walmart carb cleaner is the ----.
For the tiny parts I use my ultrasonic cleaner ;D |
Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
Is it fine to just wipe that part of the crank off with a towel? I need to clean mine up when I replace the rod bearings also.
|
Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
yea...just don't use anything that will score it..try some shop towels and carb cleaner
|
Re: Cleaning a Dissassembled Block
Castrol Superclean (Industrial strength)
I clean every single engine I build with that ----, I use probably a entire gallon, with a nice scrub brush, then blast it with the 2000psi pressure washer/burner at 200 degrees. The ---- melts off like butter =) Brake cleaner and regular solvant doesnt do ---- for really nasty ----. |
