cbr929rr itbs for ZC

Okay guys, I'm new here so bare with me.
I’ve done a lot of searching on individual throttle body setups on Honda’s (maybe not enough). I have a OBD-0 DOHC ZC with PM7 ECU that I am slowly building up with 11.1:1 CR N/A. I keep reading and hearing about guys using some type of piggy back ECU setup for fuel management. One of the biggest names I’ve found is Crome and Megasquirt…..it seams people have good luck with these. I have to tell the truth I have no idea on how Crome works with the stock ECU. The reason for the itb’s is that I would like to have a good throttle response for running around cones. I’m not looking for huge gains with the setup, just a nice idle and strong power curve through the rpm range.

What do you guy’s think is the best fuel management setup for the money without going full stand alone? I’m planning on using cbr929rr bodies that are 38mm each and I want to stick with OBD-0. The pictures show the setup I will be using minus the polished runners and flange.
Thanks,
Dan

megasquirt is great if you got somebody to tune/build it for you...
but turbo edit is proly your best choice

Thanks a lot man, I will check it out.

um no its not. Crome has itb support hence why thats your best bet.

what manifold do you have the itb's attached to?
and did they line up without modification? and lastly are the runners on that intake manifold the same width apart all the way down?
let me know, thanks

I don't have the itb's attached to anything right now. I will try to cut my ZC mani to adapt the itb's or I can have a custom flange made with equal runners. I'm thinking the stock ZC runner might be the easiest since the fuel rail and injectors mounts are there. The only problem is that no, the runners on the OEM manifold are not the same length.

Edit:
I just found a post from a guy that has almost the same exact setup as me on the ZCR.com. This is his itbs setup,

Re: cbr929rr itbs for ZC

I just read some more about his setup and it turns out he was working on converting over to OBD-1 instead of OBD-0 so that the crome system could be used to tune with just the TPS and not both TPS and MAP.
I wrote the guy an email and maybe he can help me out even further.

Thanks guys ;D

if you want it to run clean and be able to be tuned properly crome is the only way.

I dont know if ITB's would honestly be the best bet for running around cones. You loose allot of low end velocity and you'll kill allot of torque for that high rpm power.

I've heard the exact opposite. If anything you gain more torque at high rpm ranges do to better fuel optimization and the ease of fabing your own equal runner lengths. Not to mention the torque increase at low rpm’s depending on stack height and the throttle response that will scare the ---- out of you if you’re not ready for it. The only draw back I've found is the street use will consume a ton of fuel do to low vacuum at low rpm driving; this is why I'm looking for software that will help with the tuning and maybe bypass the MAP reading.
Plus the sound is brutal, just hear this,

From what I found I might as well just convert to OBD-1 to tune off of the TPS accurately with Crome.
Thanks guys.

That manifold in his first pic is a OBX with the plenum hacked off.

I second that.

use a peice of filter element, like flat or in a roll and make the holes for the factory velocity stack bolts then bolt on the velocity stacks, you still have the v stacks and it is filtered and would look clean like you werent running filters.

looks like the obx manifold would work perfect if it only had like half inch or inch of runner left.

nice idea cant believe i didnt think about it. im usin some 929's also. you can use your mani and get it tigged up with some pipe so it fits lines up prefect. Some pics ive collected. Crome from what ive read is the ticket, you can use socks for filters also. Your gonna need ot make a vac box to for your brake booster and crap like that.

Re: cbr929rr itbs for ZC

yeah the vac box
just get a golden eagle vacuum manifold, it has one big inlet on the side and 4 outlets on the bottom i believe, around $35, just reverse it, run one vacuum line from each throttle body to each of the 4 outlets and use the big inlet as the new outlet for the brake booster.

Re: cbr929rr itbs for ZC

those pics are nice but you guys really have to be careful with how long the setup is, i built a set, and there just isnt room to leave like 2 or 3 inches of runners before attaching throttle bodies with v stacks. i recommend just enough to slip the boots over and tighten down, when i build my new manifold i am gonna try to tilt the setup at and upward angle, sort of like the ae86 gts ones. but i only want to use half inch or inch max for the actual runners.

Re: cbr929rr itbs for ZC

just go to lowes and use pvc for the vac box much cheaper.

Re: cbr929rr itbs for ZC

I might just copy the Eagle Vacuum deal and TIG it out of aluminum.

Just go to a tool place and get an air manifold for Pnuematic Tools. It's like 2-5 dollars and aluminum.

Nice, thanks for the tip bumblezc. I found a place that sells exactly what I will need,
