well my bro blew his D16 out of a 98 ex last night. i almost got the engine out, and i cant figure out what the ---- happed. The block has a 4in hole in it :l behind the AC compressor. what would cause a stock car with under 80k on it to do that???

Im not sure if it was a rod that came thru or what, im a wait till i get the engine out to start looking

valve drop
kepper got loose causing valve train to fall apart
something got in the motor

the list goes on

I have replaced 4 stock honda motors all low mileage that had valvetrain failure in turn causing the motor to spit rods and make glory holes in pistons
things.

One was mine. Bone stock low mileage d15b vtec jdm motor

It can be alot of things rip the motor apart for real answers

hmm sounds like a rod but could be what chris said as well. i had one not to long ago, also a low mileage y8 that welded the #4 rod bearing to the crank and had a piece of the girdle missing on the #1. weird stuff.

On a stock motor no bud. It can be a lot of things like I said. Stock rods just dont say high out of a block just for fun

Like posted ravage it could also be some fool who never changed his oil

I fixed a gsr years ago due to some scholar who didnt for proably 30k+just added a little. Rod went for a ride after the car sat for a couple weeks. That start up with all that candy covered goo must of been super nice

But ya stock rods are the problem all stock hondas need them replaced :1

well it must be a regional thing cuz around here rods like to go first. and im no going to say its ALL the owners fault cuz a couple of them are very good about keeping care of there motors. hondas dont like high revs with stock rods on an older motor.
