car wont start, need some opinions
im gonna say right now, i overheated the motor, about 8 times, in one day.. got it home, fiixed the coolant leak i had and it was running great, i put it in the garage for the night, get up to get ready for work and it wont fire, it came close once but i cant get the bitch started
i tested compression, and altho it was a cold test the numbers were decent and close to eachother in reading.. so i've got compression, i've got spark, i've got fuel etc, everything required for it to run.. only thing thats catching my attention as a possable problem is my hondata has been on all the time for the last couple days its a stock D16Z6 T3 42/48 at 12psi hondata S200 RC550's walbro pump yadda yadda, basicly all supporting fuel mods with a good tune if anyone has any ideas or suggestions of what to check or what could be my problem then please share, its my DD and i feel like a tard borrowing mommys car to goto work, plus its auto so i hate driveing it :1 |
Re: car wont start, need some opinions
are you getting good spark? checked your cap and rotor? did your plugs look alright? is the voltage in your battery where it needs to be? would your car start if you jumped it? is it getting fuel?
|
Re: car wont start, need some opinions
yes, good spark, cap and rotor and distributor are brand new, less then a month old, battery was fine, killed it trying to start it though, getting fuel, plugs looked fine, and it still wouldnt start when i tried to jump it

Re: car wont start, need some opinions
did you take the cap off check the littl screw that holds the rotor on the shaft, happend to me once screw came ot stuck in the cap somewhere and i took the engine apart trying to figure out why it wouldnt start.
|
Re: car wont start, need some opinions
i've got good spark so i doubt its the rotor, plus the dizzy, cap and rotor are all less then a month old
|
Re: car wont start, need some opinions
no im saying the screw that holds the rotor on can vibrate loose and then it spins on the rotorshaft so you get spark but not at the right time ie crank crank aw almost stared then crank crank nothing get it ???

Re: car wont start, need some opinions
rotor is good to go, think i found my problem though, my main relay is ------ nappy as hell, i was told it was replaced but theres no ------ way in hell it ever has been
anyone has a main relay for an 89 civic Si they wanna sell me pm me with a price ;D |
Re: car wont start, need some opinions
will a dx relay work on the si if so i might have one on my shell
|
Re: car wont start, need some opinions
not sure to be honest, im bidding on a relay on e-bay for under $10 for my car though, if the relay dont fix it i'll just end up useing it as an exscuse to swap in a diffrent motor
|
Re: car wont start, need some opinions
all main realys are the same i put one from a 88 dx crx on my 91 crx si and its works fine have u checked the timming it might be off never know
|
Re: car wont start, need some opinions
checked timeing, its good, im 80% sure its the main relay, this ------ thing was nappy as hell, corrosion, rust, mud, moisture, just about anything you could think of and more on it, i'll post a pic later, and it was gettin hot as hell too
|
Re: car wont start, need some opinions
cant u go to a salvage yard and get the relay or just try it from one of ur friends cars they are all the same be fore u buy it
|
Re: car wont start, need some opinions
i live in nebraska... that simple sentence pretty much answer's both questions, lol
a main relay from e-bay is less then $10 so im not sweatin it too much, if it dont work then its a good exscuse to use to swap in a new motor |
Re: car wont start, need some opinions
have u tried a different ecu
|
Re: car wont start, need some opinions
dont have acess to one, i live in nebraska.. basicly im 50 miles or more from the nearest honda, let alone anyone with honda parts
*edit* actualy i just thought of someone who does have one, but hes just a bit over 50 miles away and more then likely wouldnt loan it to me to see if it would fix the problem |
Re: car wont start, need some opinions
the bitch runs now ;D i'll be takein her out for a road test tomorrow since i yanked alot of ---- trying to get it started, it was a bad main relay and a blown fuse under the dash
just wondering though, i dont hear any clicking like you should or the fuel pump primeing but my car still starts and runs.. bad sign or not a big deal? |
