Car won't start!!

Ok for some reason the search function on the website doesn't work for me or else I would look around.

Here is what happened, I started my car up fine a couple of days ago, ran fine then when i went to leave, and it slowly died. Tried restarting the car put it wouldn't turnover, like it was cranking fine but it's like there is no spark or something. I have a MSD blaster 2 Coil on there with the modded igniter cover. It has run fine for this past year after I installed the turbo except for the CEL that is always on (it's like the Barometric pressure sensor in the ECU). Heh I guess I should give you what kind of car it is, '91 Integra LS and I am running Turboedit. I am just looking for any advise on where to start looking for the problem, or if any body has gone through this before, or if the thing is finally done with me, 2 weeks before I get a new car. Thanks for any advise ahead of time.

Hmm also a history of rats around our parking lot, but no sign of any chewed wires...

Re: Car won't start!!

check for fuel and also for spark. check your grounds.
can you hear the fuel pump turn on before starting the car? if not, it might be the main relay.
if there's no spark, start with testing the coil and then the igniter.

ive seen lot of ppl with MSD stuff and having problems.. really i dont understand why changes stock ignition (coil, etc) when OEM run very nice to high power.. but id say.. re-check it ... could be alot of problems..main relay?

Do you have spark, fue, and a good battery(with juice). anyone whos car wont start should always check this befor posting. Once you know that then people will atleast know what direction to look into for you.

its like a begger who wants your spare change but wont dance for it :3l

Do you still have the stock ign. coil in the distrib.? Because I heard that can cause alot of problems, when you use a external coil with it.

Re: Car won't start!!

i inherited the same problem. like everyone said- check for fuel and spark first. if neither, check your main relay and make sure to check your grounds for corrosion, broken or loose wires (especially the ones at battery, t-stat housing, and valve cover). spark but no fuel check grounds, fuse, fuel to rail (filter?) and pump. fuel but no spark check grounds, plugs and wires, distributor. are your msd box leads soldered, butt-connected, or electrical taped? i'd check those too for connections. and don't overlook burntrubber87's coil idea. picked up my ls for $200 because of this problem and had an extra coil in the garage. 2 hours after buying it and 1 coil later i'm cruisin around town. :6

Re: Car won't start!!

From the way you decribed the way it "slowly died" I'm assuming that it sort of coughed and sputtered to a stop. If this is the way it happened, I would guess fuel pump or fuel pump relay first. I say this because when I shut of my fuel pump kill switch (ghetto security) it does exactly that, it slowly dies out...

Re: Car won't start!!

Got the same problem on a crx with the blaster coil. Turned out to be the wires we ran from the distributor to the coil were arching and it was losing just enough spark to kill it. Pull apart the distributor and check those out. And make sure they are good. Try to use bigger wire than stock. I.e. 10 gauge is good. Also make sure to take out the stock coij. When you modified the cap, did you leave a hole big enough for mostiure to get in. That can do it to. If all that is wrong, check the grounds and relays and finally check the actual harness for damage. Hope that helps.

Re: Car won't start!!

for some reason the msd ignition, tend to fry igniters at high rpms, I've experience this a lot so I travel with extra igniters.
try changing out the igniter if you are not getting spark.
you know how to check for spark right?
