he'll know to re-assemble the tranny properly next time if you beat him harder.

how can you tell by looking at the gear which way is faces? Obviously if you lay it down right side up and install in reverse but like in the pic above, how would you know? The diagrams typically just show the gear not a detailed diagram of the gear? Sorry for the dumb question just curious and hope to aviod piulling the trans 10 times in the future

Did you remember to put the bolt in to hold the reverse shaft in place?

Not sure who your talking to. I did on mine yes. It feels tough to shift and doesnt always give you a positive engagement feeling. it is dry (no oil) and been sitting installed for a while waiting on engine completetion. Would having no oil in the case cause this, not eh car is not moving) or woul;d it be an assembly issue. I was super ---- about reassembly and had tons of pics and manuals but it was also my first time. I also installed a shaort shifter at the same time. Guess this wasnt the best idea. Should have waited

I was talking to the original poster.
For you kwikcoupe, are you talking the actual gears themselves or the syncros and hubs? Basically everything should mesh together well, you should be able to shift without a problem when it is all together. If not there is mostlikely a problem. Once I put one together and when I dropped it in place one of the hubs jumped up and then slid over the syncro where it jarring it, everything shifted fine before I put it together. Once the casing was on it wouldn't shift right. Once I had it back apart it was easy to see what the problem was. I would suggest if you can't get it to shift now, take it back apart before putting it in the car and check it out carefully. If you can't get it to shift right get someone who has had them apart take a quick look at it. Sometimes that is all it will take for someone who has had them apart a few times before. |
